How do I get to threads I have replied on?

This has been answered a few times now.  Profile / Forums / Replied to.  The Posted...ago link under your post should take you to the relevant forum.

@Drac Apologies for the delay, yes I was posting multiple images using BB code direct from Flickr. In the end, the only way I could do it was post the plain text and then 'edit' the post to add the img info and show the pics.

This was the post afterwards - http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/endura-thermolite-padded-bib-longs/

I quite like the button free approach that I see. Wouldn't mind keeping it, and be forced to just keep typing tags.

IMG tags, and paste feature, now working wonderfully… like it. Everything sizes nicely on all devices.

Editing now plays nicely… also good!

Would like a working preview, and a bigger font in the textarea… or to remember to put my specs on when posting.

Everything else has been mentioned by others, so I assume are on the way later.

Would like a working preview

I'm reasonably sure that the preview button and the button bar issues are the same problem.  I've not yet seen anyone report that they have one working and not the other.

How do you post videos? Please…

Just copy & paste the URL, the editor should work it out.  YouTube links need to be the full URL and not the youtu.be shortened versions.

That's weird.  Did you paste it using the URL button?  Don't do that, just enter the text.

Auto complete words on Android phone/Chrome FUBARed. Selecting a partially completed word enters a totally different one, often gibberish.*

Apologies for not having trawled through the thread to see if this has already cropped up, but I have one point to raise.

Well, as a UX designer I have a truckload, but I'll spare you the vast majority 😉

It seems like the auto logout comes around far, far quicker than it used to. An ad-free site is something I pay Actual Money for, and whereas previously I was almost always experiencing an ad-free site, now I'm mostly not.

Any plans to change that back?

Cheers Lee. If you want a figure on that, I've come back now and I was logged out, with my previous post showing as "11 hours ago". So it's clearly under 12 hours, whereas I think previously it was several days. (iPhone, FWIW.)

Forum search update:

We are developing a custom search function for the site and forum as the default search options are not fit for purpose. There are 9 million posts in the forum database and the built in search drags everything down.

The new search will be independent of the site databases using something called Elastic Stack. It's going to take some time to bring it online as our estimates are that it will take at least 3 days just to index the forum posts. Current estimates are that it could be 5x faster than the old search and won't have any impact on site performance while it's being used.

I'll update when we are ready to turn it on.

er, Mark, can't you get the devs to work on some of the other bits of the site which are broken (links to threads you've posted on would be one useful thing...*) and just provide a box which links to https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Asingletrackworld.com+forum ? That has always worked better and more efficiently than the search on here (at least until the change in posts per page broke the indexing). Does everything on here have to be custom made and different** to what everybody else uses?

* alternatively can you at least tell me how I can get info direct from the DB using http://singletrackworld.com//wp-admin/admin-ajax.php? and I'll fix it properly client side
** I'm tempted to use an alternative word

"How do I get to threads I have replied on?"

""This has been answered a few times now.  Profile / Forums / Replied to.  The Posted…ago link under your post should take you to the relevant forum."
This is the main pain for me.

If I go to Profile/Forums I get - "Topics started", "Replies Created" and "Favorites". Despite clicking various things, I can't work out how to get back to the topic I replied too. Am I being a moron here?

Also, I used to like hovering over the part where it said how long ago the last reply was and being able to see who posted said reply.

I love the new feature.

Instead of italics, the button now does this: I used to be an italic but I'm alright now.

Despite it showing in italics as you type. Cool.

Aannnd. That's been fixed 🙂

Doesn't work for me either, which is a shame.

I'm surprised it works for anyone analysing the link on both desktop and mobile.

I can't even work out how to get it to work by copying the link and manipulating it (like I managed with the post editing) because the post number doesn't seem to be enough on it's own, it always wants the topic title (which is always missing on that page).

Replies Created seems pretty pants..
It shows my replies, but does not show which topic the reply is related to.
Click on the "Posted 2 Hours ago" just puts that reply at the top of my screen.

Still not got any buttons for quotes/bold/urls/etc.

EDIT: Just realised the above replies, saying the same thing.

Can we have a separate 'locked' thread which tells us the still outstanding issues?

This thread is just getting a bit stupid in terms of people having to repeat issues as they are unsure if been mentioned before or not.

Me

Not buttons for quoting/linking etc.
Silly small text when responding to a thread on mobile
No way to find threads that I have responded to but not started.

We could but I’m not convinced it’ll work.

Most people just don’t bother looking or reading theads and posts, they just reply.

If I can find the time and enthusiasm I may make one.

I don't think it does work for anyone (obviously I've also spent quite a bit of time looking at HTML etc. on here) - I think there's a bit of confusion here, because it's being suggested that's where the links should be, not that it actually works.

I can’t even work out how to get it to work by copying the link and manipulating it (like I managed with the post editing) because the post number doesn’t seem to be enough on it’s own, it always wants the topic title (which is always missing on that page).

The only way I've worked out how to do it via the publicly available interface is via an intermediate page. If you take the post number and put it at the end of http://singletrackworld.com/forum/reply/ - eg http://singletrackworld.com/forum/reply/9817993 for your post that takes you to a reply page. On that page there is the topic title and a link to the topic (if you're interested in the HTML the link has the class 'bbp-breadcrumb-topic')

That's the method the Chrome extension is using - though I've slightly changed the way it works for the version I'm currently testing. Apologies to anybody currently trying to use that feature, it's horribly annoying in the version I last sent out, it's just that I've found another bug I need to fix before the next release (I was hoping to make an official release today after a weekend of testing, but it may be tomorrow now).

Don't worry, we're going to have a new super whizzy search feature in a few days - it will be almost as good as https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=site%3Asingletrackworld.com+forum Clearly that's by far the most important thing for the devs to be working on right now as [s]Google would get the ad revenue rather than STW[/s] it wouldn't fit in with the site if we just had a link to Google.

You know what, I've tried hard to be positive about this whole process - I reiterate every time that not only do I understand it was a change which had to happen, but that it was something I'd been pushing for for years. I've also personally put quite a bit of work in to try and help out some other users and fix things which are broken client side where I can. That latest post from Mark has really pissed me off though if I've correctly understood the implication that it's the search feature where devs are expending their effort.

I think I've seen a couple of comments/complaints about the search feature on this thread - as I keep pointing out, the correct google search works far better than the old search did. Meanwhile this page alone is filled with people who want to be able to find out whether anybody has posted on the threads they've replied to and go to those threads. Personally that was one of the main ways I interacted with the forum (and I know I'm far from alone) which is the reason I've tried to fix it client side - but TBH I've done a rubbish job, because it's not possible to do better. Is there a really good reason this can't be fixed instead of the search facility? I suspect given an hour or two with the code base I could make something which worked, given I have a good idea of what the requirements are.

So Mark just popped in, not to address the concerns of most people on here about the things they use not working but to proclaim that we would have a new thing which nobody is all that bothered about.

Yep, I think I said near the start of this thread, the hover over to see last poster and the link to the last posts I've made are the things I miss. Definitely not the search as I never used it.

I took part in usability studies for websites a couple of times and it was fun.  They had cameras on your face to see where your eyes went when they asked you to find things on the site.  Each time I would just type site:zzzzzz.com thingtofind  in google and go straight there 🙂

It was WAY more painful to go through either the menu system or their 'map' as both assumed that I knew how they categorised the subjects or that I spelled the word in exactly the correct way.  In the end we agreed to restrict myself to their site 🙁

Google ftw

What a total crock of shit of a post and one that has resolutely ignored every single other post in this thread asking for help/timescales/fixes/etc.

That may just be the last nail in the coffin for many with the level of ignorance to members here.

He probably could but then that wouldnt be what he obviously wants for whatever his superdooper plans are that have thoroughly borked the website and forum up and he seems steadfastly resolute in ignoring every single user - both non-paying and paying.

And that involves going to a different site. Yes, they could put a google search box on this site but why be the same as everyone else? The forum as it is currently is perfectly usable. People can post, reply, quote, insert links / photos / videos, , edit posts blah blah blah. If I hadn't been on this site forever I'd find the level of moaning and abuse directed at Mark et al astonishing but as it is it's just expected.

Some can, lots can't. The reply button doesn't do anything on iPad, iPhone or Mac, all running the latest Safari or Opera. I can only view on iPhone. It will randomly post, often the post will disappear. As for photos? **** me it's a complete omnishambles.

Drac.

It works erratically on iPad. On iPhone the pop up box falls off the screen edge and I can't select the input boxes. I have tried to post using [ img ] tags but I just get an empty white box in the post. If I try to edit it fills the edited post with HTML spaff.

I'm running out of patience with it TBH.

Hmmm!

Most odd as I don’t get those issues on my Apple devices, the html script popping is a pain but pressing the little eraser icon fixes that.

I do have to enter quote BB code manual as it doesn’t work for my iPad

As I mentioned the other day, when quoting on iPhone I copy, paste, then have to highlight the text to use the eraser, but the Apple black bar with "copy, paste, select, etc." Covers the formatting buttons. Press anywhere on the screen to collapse the black select bar and the highlighted text un-highlights.

So its then a case of quoting with all of the HTML code or not at all.

It now works if I paste the image address without buttons on iPhone. But a pop up with a break link button appears, I have to break it and then it works.

I tried this earlier with no luck. But the random autocorrect and replacement is back with a vengeance.

And that involves going to a different site. Yes, they could put a google search box on this site but why be the same as everyone else?

Which makes exactly what difference to you? If they put a search box on here (I'm going to do that in the extension now, just to make a point) then the user experience would be exactly the same* as if they had their own custom search facility. Yeah, why use the industry standard when you could spend lots of time trying to reinvent the wheel rather than fixing all the other problems?

The forum as it is currently is perfectly usable. People can post, reply, quote, insert links / photos / videos, , edit posts blah blah blah. If I hadn’t been on this site forever I’d find the level of moaning and abuse directed at Mark et al astonishing but as it is it’s just expected.

Like many others I have no buttons above the reply box apart from "Preview" (which doesn't work). I've no idea what the "Reply" button does as it doesn't work. The only way I have of quoting, adding any formatting, posting photos etc. is either by adding the tags manually or by using the forum extension. I have no way of adding smileys apart from those I remember the code for. As mentioned above, the functionality I mostly used to interact with the old site doesn't work (I've bodged it in the extension, but it's a rubbish bodge). Fortunately I don't have the problem lots of other people do of pasting lots of HTML into my replies, because that bit doesn't work at all. All of these are things the devs could be working on, but instead Mark has them reinventing ****ing Google.

Oh and another thing. You all moan about the lack of updates and when you get one you moan even more!

Yes - because the update we do get suggests Mark's paying no attention at all to the issues people have and what they'd like fixing. As I mentioned before, only a couple of comments on here about the search and they've got helpful replies with the Google link. Unfortunately there isn't a Google link to make all the other bits of the site work - so Mark's update is that they're busy working on the only bit of missing functionality on the new forum for which there is an easy workaround - we're supposed to be happy with that?

*the same apart from the search results being far better than any custom search function
