As we move through the final quarter of 2017, should we aim at instituting a series of Forum Awards? Then we can all chip in and buy the winners a "P" for the year. The categories could be along the lines of:

1. Most humorous
2. Most obnoxious
3. Most surreal
4. Most helpful
5. Most interesting
6. Most pointless
7. Most contentious
8. Most unintentionally amusing
9. Most likely to actually know what they're talking about
10. Most likely to actually ride bikes

Any other categories?

What do you think? 😉

Did they not used to have that 'back in the day' with invites to STW towers and everyfing?

I feel I have made a strong showing in each category

Definitely. What this forum totally needs is more opportunities to disappear up its own arse.

I already bought TeamHurtmore a subscription as a thank you for standing up on my behalf wrt to posts I had not even seen. This got him a 3 month ban as he overstepped the mark.

You're only saying that because you're a stupid moron with a brain the size of a pea and all the learning of the average ant.

And you smell. Smelly.

No offence. 😉

That gets me at least one...

Most likely to get banned.

Most stupid questions asked in the Bike forum (only because I'm in with a chance of winning that one).

Best use of meme or GIF

Best thread derailment

Most likely to not know what they are talking about

^^^.

When everyone piles on, it can just turn into bullying. Even if the recipient is tool, it's not nice.

saxonrider really not a good idea. Leads to playground name-calling or the forum disappearing up its own bottom bracket.

Most likely to disappear for a year and return pretending like nothing's happened only now doesn't put up amusing gifs as much (or at all?) 😆

Indeed... and for two reasons;
1 - I don't ride as much as I used to, and
2 - I don't ride with anyone on STW so nobody here would see me riding my bike...

On the positive front

1. Most humorous - PP by a country mile
5. Most interesting - saxonrider (esp given the context too)
8. Most unintentionally amusing - [s]E[/s] nah, better not
9. Most likely to actually know what they're talking about - mefty
10. Most likely to actually ride bikes - that fast bloke - gee something and I did meet postierich once but his bike was bust so could be a fraud 😉

Marin - are you suggest that the sub is a waste of money?!?

Tricky one, I have a terrible memory for other poster's names, even though I'm pretty confident I'd be pretty high in a league table of 'most time spent reading forum'.

Nominate Northwind for 'most political posts I've found genuinely insiteful' and a joint nomination for 'making the best of a tedious thread' for everyone who contributed to my thread on the correct use of the word 'contingent' which actually turned into quite a funny thread, if shortlived.

If there was a 'Most active moderator on the forum today' award, you would have won hands down, Cougar. 😉

Really, though, you would have had my vote. Unless drac is reading this. Then you would have my vote, drac.

It wasn't advertised, not that there is a requirement - I guess if you spend a lot of time on here, it may be obvious - which ties in nicely with the alleged cliquishness of these types of threads.

That would seem highly unlikely. Given that a) you wouldn't get a ban in isolation just for disagreeing about moderation, and b) he's not -actually- a moderator so it's simply not possible.

I probably shouldn't admit this out loud for fear of encouraging the bridge-dwellers, but I tend to be more lenient rather than less when something's directed at me / us. I had someone have a pop at me a couple of days ago which would've earned them a warning / short ban under other circumstances, I let it slide rather than be accused of an abuse of power / privilege.

I'm reasonably certain that all of the anonymous mods are users you'd never suspect in a million years and you wouldn't even believe me if I told you who they were. The "big hitters" are all out because ego.

Er, oh, shit.

(-: Point was, "I'd argue but Moderator" is a [s]lazy[/s] moot argument in the Chat forum. I've said this time and again. I don't know of any Moderator ever, out or anon, who has abused their privs to win an argument or shut down criticism. Not least because if they did they'd get mauled by the rest of the team.
