Today I held a new gear from an F1 gearbox (remarkably light) and watched a Bugati Veyron gearbox casing being made.
Not sure I can say where this was but it's a hugely impressive facility.

Nice one CR500! I've been to a couple of places that do serious machining work but not on the same scale, fascinating.

No pics I'm afraid - they stuck a sticker over the camera on my phone

My brother used to work at Ricardo; they sent him to Detroit and gave him the job of launching a civvy version of Humvee, to be called Hummer 2. I tell you this with a mixture of pride and embarrassment!

It could have been worse, it could have been the Nissan Juke.

I've held and photographed a fully engineered replica Trident warhead, a little more costly and powerful than a puny F1 car. 🙂
The nasty bits were obviously dummy but the rest of it was for real.
Interestingly as long as we photographed it without a scale in the photo it was unclassified.

Did I bump into you at FOD last Friday Sharkbait?

Brother in law quite often used to turn up with interesting Nascar bits and pieces shock pistons etc. 😀

He's in F1 now, don't see any of those bits, still waiting for my Oris watch 👿
