One of my daughters has got foot pain that has been getting steadily worse since turning on it last weekend. There is nothing visible (ie no swelling) but today it is worse than ever - not excruciating pain, but enough to have her cancel running club tonight (which she loves so it isn't an excuse).

The pain is on the outside side of the foot.

Any ideas or is it a trip to the doc's / hospital xray department?

Sounds like a physio job, but doctors isn't a bad shout. Probably streched or ruptured the ligaments. I've done this, it sucks but it does heal if treated properly.
She may have broken one of the smaller bones in the foot if it isn't the ligaments.
Even without swelling R.I.C.E. will help

Sounds like the anterior talofibular ligament, which is the most ankle common ligament to sprain. If she's hobbling about still then unlikely to be serious. As above ice, compression and elevation is all good, ibuprofen helps also.

I wouldn't rest it too much- keep it moving every hour or so to stop it stiffening up, start loading it as pain allows. Although to be fair if she's a youngster she will probably be springing back into action pretty soon!

By last weekend do you mean a couple of days ago or a whole week and a bit?

Would go see the doc or a decent physio then, if need be they can refer for an x-ray if they suspect something more
