I was assembling my new wardrobe yesterday in my bedroom at the side of my bed, I put the main box frame together and began to lift it into a horizontal position; as I did I began to hear cracking and moments later the whole frame collapses in on itself, with the screws tearing big chunks out of the panels, I also managed to tear a hole in my new faux leather bed.

Gutted 😥

Oops, not quite as bad but have built wardrobe in hall before now, as too lazy to clear a space in the bedroom, only to find it wouldn't go through the door. Also different wardrobe but this time built it on the floor, instructions said build upright but who reads them, tried to stand it up and took a chunk out of the ceiling 😳

Ever try filling a water bed with the intention of moving into place later? 😳

To the OP - that's a nightmare. I genuinely feel sorry for you! Must be gutting.

Was it an Ikea pax wardrobe? Nearly done it myself...

It's only the back panels that give any real rigidity, I've binned the hardboard on a few and added MDF instead, does add even more weight though. If you stand it up on the flattened out cardboard box you can slide it over carpet when too heavy to lift, then cut card around base.
