The other half’s car is sat on the drive with another flat rear tyre, the other rear went last week. I can see that there is a piece of Stanley blade stuck in it, just like the one last week, coincidence? Anyway, given the positioning of where the blade has gone into the tyre I do not think it is malicious. The problem I now have is her car only has the useless slime and compressor kit rather than a spare, home fitting companies seem to have a minimum two tyre policy so I need to get the tyre to a tyre shop. Does anyone know if a 63 plate Ford Focus spacesaver will fit on a 15 plate Volvo V40 R design? The stud pattern looks the same so would it work? Failing that I’ll have to jack up the Volvo and take the wheel to the tyre shop whilst it is left on the jack.
Trevor.

Jack up the car take off the wheel.

Try the volvo one. If it fits drive it slowly to the tyre place.

If it doesn't stick an axle stand under and job st take the flat to be repaired.

You may need an axle stand. They're cheap and useful.

Pretty sure it will, unless Volvo have done something random in the last couple of years they're the same 108x5 and very similar offset, 50 or thereabouts. I know I can put most modern volvo wheels on my mondeo and I'm sure enough that the focus and mondeo have compatible wheels that I'd spend my own money on it.

You might get some detail rubbish like the spacesaver not fitting over brakes but you can probably figure that out with some wheel shuffling.

You could check wheel-size.com and see if these cars are both in there.

Just checked that website P20 and my focus spare will fit the Volvo, great stuff, thanks for that. Trevor.

So I rush home from work so I can get the wheel off and get to the tyre shop to get the tyre replaced, can I get the wheel off? Nope. What should be a quick and simple job now needs someone else just to come and get the wheel off for me, seems to be stuck to the hub and will need some gentle persuasion. Not something I can do when it’s jacked up on a scissor jack! Bugger.

Can’t you just get a sledge hammer to it.. brace a piece of timber across the wheel and whack that with the hammer.. I think you’ll find the true repair bloke will do something very similar ..

Yes but not on a scissor jack, would probably knock the car off the jack! Volvo are coming.

Take the nuts off and do some handbrake turns in the carpark.

Slacken the nuts and leather it with a hammer. Then jack it up.

They're the same car except one is made in China and the other in Belgium.

Ha ha. I’m not whacking it with a hammer, she has only had it two minutes, if Volvo whack it and damage it then they can pay to fix it!

... with a flat tyre?

The last time this happened to me I jacked it up so that it's just clear of the floor, sat on the floor and booted it till it released.

Yes but not on a scissor jack, would probably knock the car off the jack!

... whereupon the car would fall the length of the suspension compression plus about half an inch. BFHD. Just make sure you're not under it. (-:

Grow some balls.

Maybe tell your wife to hit her car with a hammer. With a bit of wood across it as per bike bouys suggestion.

It doesn't need handbrake turns, you can break most wheels loose in the driveway just with some stabs of accelerator and brake. I'd rather not do it on a flat, personally, but you only need a minute or two of inflation so that's often doable even with a puncture.

Aside; I was teaching the dude next door how to do this when he got a flat, and his kids wanted to learn too. So after we discovered the wheel was properly welded on, I got them to have a go at pulling it off with me then said "It's too stuck, we're not strong enough. But what have we got that's stronger than us?" And without a second's hesitation the wee boy goes "A BEAR!" WEll I meant the car, kiddo, but you go and get your tyre changing bear, that sounds awesome.
