The flash on this bloody site is cooking my laptop.
Anyway to kill it on Safari?
I don't have a problem with the ads as I know they pay the bills. It's just the bloody flash.

Dunno about Safari, but there definitely Firefox plug-ins available.

However discussion of Ad Blocking is verboten in the forum rules so I'll say no more.

Also check you are using the latest version of Flash as the earlier ones suck.

Maybe stw could ask for animated gif ads instead of flash? Or better still, static images...

Flash keeps on crashing on Chrome and increasingly chrome keeps crashing and I suspect that flash on here is to blame.

Flash, to me, seems better than gif and is a lot more fun to create stuff with. GIF is old hat and comparatively large for download. However many flash ads seem to max out CPU on some peoples computers. But my processor usage is sat at 11% with 2 monitors (and 4 STW windows) running flash ads.

Sadly blocking flash equates to blocking ads. So we cannot discuss it.

Google is your friend.

I'm on an old ibook 800mhz, cpu usage goes from 20% to 99% coming on here & the temp shoots up.
I'll see what google says.

AHHHHHHH!

+1, i cant look at stw at home cause of all the wizzyness.
my laptop has BEEN cooked.
it just dies as soon as STW tries to load.
infact, i was GOING to bring this up earlier this morining, but didnt as it would lead to ad blocking discussions.

can we have a less whizzy version of the STforum please mods for us with coal fired laptops?

It's in STW and the advertisers interests that this a site that people want to use. If Flash is a common problem for people give some feedback. If people stop using the forum then the adverts wont be seen!

The flashy, animated ads get more clicks that static ones, so they have to stay.

of course, if none of the ads flashed, that wouldn't be an issue 😉
