Just got one of those large parasols with the pole at the side. The base is quite large and I'd like to put it further into the corner of the patio. The pole is secured into the base by four bolts.
Options:
1. Find some kind of ground anchor with four bolts on top
2. Dig hole, fill with concrete, drill holes into concrete and bolt the base to the concrete.
3. ...?
Ideas?
dig hole, fill with concrete but cast the bolts into the concrete. Maybe worth making up a frame to hold them in the right position. Put a large (like really large) washer on the bolt in the concrete to prevent it pulling out. Put tape around the threads to stop them choking up.
remember that the loads will be quite big (parasol/wind bit like a large sail), so make the hole and concrete much bigger than you think you need..
Attach the bottom of the parasol to two bita of sturdy sheet wood with the bolts so you know it fits then remove. Have one sheet of wood at the bolt head end to go in the cement and the other out of it pretending to be the parasol. This will also keep it square. Dig a hole with a bag of postfix to fill it. Set the bolts and one chunk of wood in the postfix and the other end where you want the base. Hope that makes sense.
Sorted!
