Is anyone here a first aider at their work?
Do you get paid extra for it?

At a recent refresher course all the other people on the course from different employers were paid extra to be a first aider.
I & my colleagues however are not. It doesn't bother me if I get extra or not but I'm just wondering if it's normal practice to pay first aiders extra?

I used to be (and out of the very many First Aid courses I've done since being a Cub Scouts, wow, what an excellent modern no bollox course) in two separate companies, and wasn't paid extra in either.

I'm not sure why anyone should be paid MORE, if you're attending to victims and not 'working' you should be paid less!

I am and yes I do. But then I run the first aid team so obviously I make sure we get a decent amount for doing it!

Yes, I get £5 a week.

yes and yes I am a fire marshall as well £12 per month for basically doing nothing - compant is legally obliged to have this and everyone refused till they offered money. They cant force you under your T & C either if they try just say you are squeamish and fail the course

Yes, £30 per month. Although I did it primarily to help me and friends out riding where accidents are much more common so I would have done it for free as long as they paid for the course. I'm responsible for checking some supply boxes and not a lot else extra.

People I did it with were not paid extra if it was part of their job. For example some people were manufacturing team leaders and it was a requirement others worked in social services where again I don't think they got any extra.

I don't get as much as the emergency response team and they have their own fire engine 🙁

I need it (for my Level 4 kayak coach, as well as other outdoors qualifications).

Winter job (Asda) pays for the course, and I get £3 a month but course is £150ish so not fussed!

I did it for a couple of years, and never got paid for it.

then I had some fat bird ask me to apply plasters to her blistered feet as she couldn't do it herself.

that was it for me

You should have wired her jaw instead.

I am, but don't get paid extra for it. I enjoy doing it and consider it to be free training for something I can use outside work. Last year it helped me look after my Dad in a pretty dangerous situation, so I'm grateful for it.
