Anyhoo there is some stuff going round that you should use fireproof plaster on the wall. I think it's bullsquaddle, has anyone fitted one without fireproof plaster and not died?

if its a real fire you will have sand and cement the wall they dont make fire proof plaster only fire- boards (pink ones) in your case will not work

As i understand it its not that u will die just that the plaster might crack and fall off the wall. We just had a free standing log burner installed only 2 inches away from the wall. It was recommended that we had a large area replaced with fire proof board. The current plaster was not thick enough to recess the board so we had a small piece of fire proof board directly behind the stove and left the old plaster which has all been fine.

we have a stovax that is similar looking to that one. we have a slate surround and hearth. think the only muck they used was to seat the hearth and patch up around the aperture. the surround is a good 4" or so mind, so it's not mounted in the same was as the one you have pictured, and the surround will protect the existing plaster of course.
sorry, maybe not the most useful of answers! good fire though. 😀

Our wood burner badly cracked the plaster behind it. After a discreet bit of remodelling the corner that the burner sits in has had cement board on battens surface and that works a treat. No cracks and once painted looks fine.

Not the best photo but you get the idea.
