Have rarely had a problem with previous FF releases, but since I'd "upgraded" to 3.5 it's been a pile of pants. Crash, memory errors, tabs and images disappearing, etc. Unusable generally.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any fixes? Else I'm going to revert back to an earlier version.

SM

Fine for me too, super speedy in fact.

Though you do need to update to 3.5.1 to fix a security threat in 3.5.

Bizarrely try emptying your Internet Explorer temp files.

FireFox 3.5 uses them as a seed when generating a random number for security (very odd design choice) and as a result it can take an age to start if there are too many of them.

or upgrade to 3.5.1 which fixes it.

ff 3.5.1 sill starts up really slowly for me too, seems quite a bit faster on my Vista pc but that could be because its a bettter spec.

myadvice for best firefox performace is to keep your addons to a minimum, and avoid opening pdf's in the browser, also some sites which are heavy on javascript can cause firefox to get a little carried away with its memory usage, so it's worth keeping an eye on it with the task manager

alternatively just use Google chrome

I thought FF PDF thing was a 'feature' of my new PDFVista thing in my HP mini - clearly not. Chuck Zone Alarm into the mix and unless you know what you are doing you;d never get anything working !

Just loaded 3.5.1 and found that it has annoying Tabs at the top of the screen - anyone know how to remove them?

I am quite new to FF having been recommended it by everybody. However, I'm with Spacemonkey - unusable seems to be a good way of describing it at the moment with hanging and crashing galore. Back to IE which everyone seems to hate but it does appear to be much more stable.

GAve up on Firefox. Too slow to start despite trying many suggestions from t'interweb. Chrome is certainly faster in my experience but doesn't work with the streaming video on Freecaster. It used to be all so simple 🙁

3.5.1 - fine here. Only one that doesnt lockup on STW. Only one that loads quickly. Only one that works nicely all-round. PDFs are fine too. Not sure how everyone has these problems, maybe I'm lucky on my 4 systems 🙂

I have had Firefox crashing a lot recently, but only when browsing Singletrack.

I have allowed it to report all the crashes, so presumably hired thugs from Mozilla will shortly be paying Mark and Chipps a visit.

IE crashes left right and centre on STW for me, it's something to do with the ad/vid bar on the right I think. FF so far unaffected but it drives me mad, takes all the tabs and other instances with it. Royal PITA.

Don't have any problem with it at all here, including STW (and having loads of tabs open). Don't know how you can blame PDF problems on FF if you're using the pile of rubbish that is Acrobat! In fact I always reckon that most browser problems can be aimed squarely at Adobe, given that the other thing which causes issues is Flash. There are of course ways with FF to prevent Flash causing you problems...

I'd like to thank all you early adopters for your sterling work testing Firefox 3.5.etc - when they finish it I might download it but until then 3 is working fine.

I've also had very few problems with IE, especially from 7 onwards. Firefox is wildly over-praised by the devotees IMO.

ive got 3.5.1 here and it is sh*t! what have they done.

there was two updates i noticed, first one it was slow, second one its better but now gone crap again.

the most annoying bug is if you type something into the search bar, it brings up the previous history of the site but then takes about 20 seconds greying out then it finds it and loads the page...

can i go back to version 3?

...and I'm running Chrome here, but really couldn't say one is better than the other (though at least Chrome now seems to have fixed it's most annoying bug). Quite tempted actually to revert to FF given you can't limit the negative impact of Flash quite as well in Chrome, and FF has caught up with some of the other features of Chrome.

Chrome is lovely and fast, but it's so bad for bookmarks!

It really is the only weakness imo. It takes me ages to scroll down my MASSIVE bookmark list. In firefox I simply ctrl-b to open up the sidebar.

Mind you, while we're at it...

It's annoying that it doesn't use the same FIND field across different and new tabs. eg if I'm consistently looking for the same work in various pages, I have to type it each time.

Also it often moves my page into a new window when I move over the tab and move it. I don't have tap-to-click on. But I'm willing to accept that this might be Vista being a pita

Do you not organize them into folders? I have loads, but don't have to scroll.

Good point on the search - that is irritating (and FF is better - another reason to switch back).
