Having my finger firmly on the popular pulse as I do, I've been watching Detectorists over the past few weeks. It was wonderful; quietly funny, great characters and just generally warm and lovely. What can I watch next?

This Country

Hmm, I've tried that before, just came across as 'not as good as The Office', like all post-The-Office mockumentaries. Maybe I'll give it another go.

Love Island

Not until you're on it, sweetcheeks

There is nothing quite like it, so just start watching it again from the beginning. You may have missed some of the subtle bits.

The nearest I've seen is Early Doors.

As have I - xmas present, along with "Mortimer & Whitehouse: Gone Fishing". Although non-fiction, hopefully equivalently peaceful.

This Country is probably to close to home? 🙂

What we do in the shadows, on iplayer, the series and the film are both highly entertaining.

Exactly what I was thinking! So there's going to be no point recommending Early Doors then...

How about a total 180 with Curb? Season 10's shaping up nicely.

+1 for Afterlife.

After you get over the first couple of c-bombs it becomes just much much ‘warmer’. Very well written.
Looking forward to season two.

Still Game.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Parks & Recreation.

All different but all essentially "nice" comedies, and good.

Make sure you didn't miss the xmas special (end of Season 2)

I'm not one to rewatch stuff but I keep dipping back into Detectorists.

Yep, saw that. Thought it was the weak link, TBH

Yep to Mum - really good. Wife can't/won't watch either. Oh, and Norsemen - more blood, but equally funny.

The Great Outdoors.

A series with a very similar vibe to Detectorists but it never drew the viewers I suppose as there was only 1 series.

I say series,I think there were about 3 episodes. Very gentle humour and also set in lovely countryside like Detectorists. It's a about a small oddball rambling group, similarly niche to metal detecting. I was gutted it was never picked up for more episodes/series.

The Great Outdoors.

Looks like you can pay to watch it on yt/Google etc.

What we do in the shadows

This.

And Mum.

Still Game doesn’t have the same kind of qualities at all… but still my favourite longer running series.

'Home' on channel 4. Second season just out which I've not seen yet but the first should be required viewing.
