I've signed up to Lovefilm after not going to the cinema so much in the last few years and want to catch up...
...is there a good service that will suggest films based on your favourites, or suggest what was well reviewed (rather than popular) in the past?
Tastes are a bit indie, and not so mainstream.

Not used any of them BTW - I generally just take a look through the catalogue, see what takes my fancy then check with IMDb.
I had a play on jinni.com from woody2000's link above. Just messing about on the moods section, clicking the stuff I normally like came up with some fairly good matches, based on the ones I'd seen. Possibly worth a try on that.
There have been a few film threads on STW
The weekend papers usually do decent reviews of what is coming out ( make notes for later) and what is good on DVD.
IMDb and Rotten Tomatoesare good sites

About to watch ..The Place Beyond the Pines and The Tree of Life*
*I know that a lot of people hated/didn’t get it ,but I will give it a chance. 🙂

K&M Poscasts, they sometimes suggest a film or two
Edit - more entertaining than a lot of modern films
The Place Beyond the Pines and Searching for the Sugar Man are on my watchlist too.
Recently watched Sightseers and Alter Egos that were both pretty good (and "Indie")
Woody
Yup,I have Sightseers on my list.
Just watched the trailer for Alter Egos 😀
Try a US podcast called Filmspotting it's on a par with Kermode and Mayo
I also subscribe to Total Film
Yup,I have Sightseers on my list.
Loved that. It was like a few pages of natural born killers go shuffled in to the script for Nuts in May
