I need some helping hands to build some setwork in London next week, only a couple of days work. I was going to bring a couple of chaps up from Bristol but I can save a few quid on accomodation by hiring locally. Any idea where I might place an ad? Just looked at Gumtree and they want £30. I've used a theatre site in Bristol with good results but can't find anything similar for London. It's mostly carrying and holding stuff together while I stick some screws in, nothing taxing.

lean out the window of the van and shout - anyone up for a 'obble?
alternatively outside the nearest jobcentre or the nearest pub to the site, and ask the barman/woman

A few years ago you could drive up the Edgeware road
(northern bit , Neasden if I recall correctly) very early and there would be blokes waiting for labouring jobs on street corners.
Not been up there that early for a long time tho'.

Lots of immigrant workers used to line up outside Wickes on the Seven Sisters Road (Tottenham High Road end).

As qwerty says or outside any builders in East London.

You can have you pick of labourers here (out east) there are Polish, Chinese and Asian to pick from. Spoilt for choice really.

I can't say I'm that keen on cruising round London picking up burly chaps. In fact I'm not that keen on doing much driving in London full stop so I was hoping to sort it all out before hand and meet them there.

POSTED 5 HOURS AGO # REPORT-POST

And guess who I spent the next six years working for and with, getting tips on who was hiring, drinking with, sometimes sitting around a table crying with laughter as somebody recounts the weekends mishaps? The London Irish...made a young Scottish boy feel part of a bloody big family.

they're still there outside Wickes on Seven Sisters, saw them at the weekend.
Asians on the East side of the entrance, Eastern Europeans (probably Ukranians) on the West.

if its 'set work' as in film / theatre sets you could probably list it on Artsjobs (arts council of england) or Mandy.com if its film also.

Actually... thinking about it I've had a few london filmset joiners email me CVs in the last few months - must have come across me in Kays or The Knowledge and not realised I'm up in scotland. Wonder if theres any haven't deleted...... I'll look

EDIT - found a guy for you, will email it to the address in your profile
