I'm looking for inspiration regarding some new film comedy to watch. To give an idea of my humour(?), I like the following:
Planes, Trains & Automobiles
Dumb & Dumber
The Parole Officer
Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
Anchorman
Naked Gun
Road Trip
Regarding recent films, I liked the look of the trailer for 'Goon'
Also, is 'Brazil' any good?
Brazil's not a comedy in the way your other films are.
I like Coen Brothers comedies: Oh Brother, Raising Arizona etc.
Just saw the first 20 minutes of Midnight in Paris, and it looks like that may become my favourite after I see the rest. It looks brilliant!
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox story if you like the Anchorman style of comedy. "this is a particularly bad case of somebody being cut in half" 😆
Super Troopers
The Big Lebowski is always worth a watch.
Submarine is kind of a comedy, worth a watch even if it's a bit soppy.
Live from Hell..... Spinal Taaap!!!
"The Greatest Story Ever Told"...
Sorry, I mean: "The Life of Brian." 😀
Blazing Saddles
Spaceballs
Young Frankenstein
The Producers
Any film starring "The Hoff" or Bruce Campbell is worth a laugh, but probably not entirely for the right reasons.
The Guard - for a new one.
Modern style tropic thunder
Arsenic and old lace for classic screwball comedy
Anything by laurel and hardy
National Lampoon's Animal House
The life of Brian.
Dogma.
The pink panther.
Withnail & I
The Big Lebowski
Blazing Saddles
+1 for Raising Arizona and other Coen stuff.
Forgot to add Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Caddyshack 🙂 Also if you're into TV series Parks And Recreation is pretty good.
napoleon dynamite and spinal tap, both incredible and highly quotable, but not to everyone's taste. Though they don't sit well with your other fave's!
Brazil is fantastic, one of my favourite films in fact, but not exactly a roller-coaster of laughs...
"So, I Married an Axe Murderer" is a bit of brainless fun as is "Little Fockers".
Groundhog Day.
School of Rock.
Zoolander.
Royal Tenumbaums (sp).
+1 for The Guard
If you don't mind French (or Spanish )with subtitles >>
Delicatessen
Beautiful Lies
Amélie
The Artist
Volver
Wacky
Life Aquatic
Napoleon Dynamite
Napoleon Dynamite
Superbad
American Pie
Old School
Dead men don't wear plaid
Sleeper
Life of Brian = best film of all time
The last actual laugh out-loud film I watched was Horrible Bosses, which surprised me.
In the Loop
My favourite comic actor is Walter Matthau, he made some duds but many classics too.
Twin Town
The Station Agent
+1 for the Big Lebowski
headfirst - MemberLife of Brian = best film of all time
Man with taste right there!
Most of the rest reads like my all time list of films to avoid whilst sober. Whilst drunk, however, the weakest of "comedy" offerings seems hilarious.
Sadly I watched Anchorman sober 😕
Four weddings and a Funeral.
In fact anything written by Richard Curtis ahs me chuckling.
Most Carry On films too.
Grosse Point Blank
The Princess Bride
Arsenic and old lace (brilliant stuff, though I have soft spot for old Archie & would mention many more...)
Groundhog Day
Kung Fu Hustle
to start with...
Amazingly I don't find even half of the film list above my post funny, just goes to show how different we all are.
See no Evil, Hear no Evil.
Airplane,
Naked Gun.
Withnail & I
Sideways
I wanna say Fargo - a black comedy maybe?
Swingers
The Pink Panther
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Am I the only person that found Napolean Dynamite entirely unfunny?
I havent seen many good comedy films. I think my favourites are probably:
Monty Pythons Holy Grail
Four Lions
le donk and scor zay zee
napoleon dynamite
I watched that Brass Eye series once, and now almost every other comedy Ive seen since has seemed really shite in comparison. I've lost my sense of humour.
Am I the only person that found Napolean Dynamite entirely unfunny?
No I thought it was abolute shite. I hate that type of comedy.
there's something about mary
'exceptional my ass'
The Jaberwocky
The Three Amigos
The Holy Grail
The Pink Panther
Planes, Trains
Any Python but probably Life of Brian if I HAD to choose
Something About Mary
Dumb & Dumber
Ace Ventura
American Werewolf in London
Blues Brothers
Withnail & I
Naked Gun
and finally...
TRADING PLACES
Grosse Point Blank
Young Frankenstein
Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid
They Call Me Trinity
Trinity Is Still My Name
You guys need to watch more B&W movies very few mentioned, what about:
Some like it Hot
Dr Stangelove
The Fortune Cookie
The Ladykillers
dp
What kinds of funny films?
Dark Humour: Fight Club, which manages to take the piss out of itself. I like satirical types of films. The whole film reminds me of this scene in the Life of Brian.
"Brian: You're all individuals!
Crowd: Yes! We're all individuals!
Brian: You've all got to think for yourselves!
Crowd: Yes! We've all got to think for ourselves!
Crowd: Tell us more!"
It's a total cliche but when it finished with the Pixies "Where is my mind" I had a maniacal grin on my face. It's completely twisted in a way I adore.
Silly Humour: The Inbetweeners
For all out greatness: Monty Pythons The Life of Brian and M*A*S*H (film)

+1 - great choice
Kind Hearts and Coronets.
Steve Martin 80s stuff but ages since I've seen any.
Team America
South Park The Movie
Airplane
Dodgeball
The first hour or so of 'Old School' is genius
I do really enjoy the Coen Bros stuff also
The Italian Job
Ferris Bueller's Day off
Watched Animal House for the first time in years recently. Very juvenile, but very funny.
More votes for Groundhog Day and Life of Brian. It's amazing how LOB could be so fantastic, and Holy Grail/Meaning of Life so rubbish in comparison.
All the Austin Powers films were quite amusing
See no Evil, Hear no Evil.
+1 and stir crazy
Nobody mentioned blazing saddles?
Yeah Stir Crazy is another great film.
Howled at the Austin Powers scene where he is in the tent having things removed from his behind in silhouette. Not keen on the rest of the films though.
Blues Brothers.
