[Closed] Films that end with a big scene on RACE DAY!

You know the type. Misfit loner kid moves to new town... happens to be sh*t hot on a BMX... falls afoul of the local crew... hot girl also involved who's with the don of the crew but she's got a soft spot for the loner kid... trouble ensues... local crew plan to take down the kid on RACE DAY... that section of the movie starts with a PA voiceover announcing all the hot racers who are there that day... loner kid smashes it in the heats but then gets the fear & says he's going to quit but is persuaded not to (prob by the girl but maybe also by a grizzled old timer who was the man back in his day)... naturally nails the final, beating the don of the crew on the line... grudging respect is earned.

BMX can be substituted for surfing/fast cars/anything else you can compete on. I know there are loads of movies like this but I can't remember what any of them are called... got any tips STW hive mind?

North Shore - yes! that's the one with Laird Hamilton in, right? Not sure GoG fits the bill... Tokyo Drift does but is surely the worst of the FF movies.

There's got to be one about skateboarding too.

No, it's actually the best. I'm happy to debate you.

Think I'm going to watch RAD tonight if I can find a decent version somewhere. And I will watch Tokyo Drift again with an open mind!

I've genuinely never seen Rocky. Or any of the sequels.

And now I never will.
SPOILER ALERT.

Tropes are tropes. Cliches are cliches. They don't have to to be exactly the same to perform the same function.

Any Given Sunday?

Actually thinking about it, it doesn't really follow the plot that the OP wants, but the Pacino monologue at half time towards the end of the film is worth the watch.

EDIT: I don't think it was half-time... 😳 Maybe a time-out shortly before the end.

Or maybe even before the whole game...cripes, I haven't a clue really...but it's good! 😀

The original rocky is good, the sequels less so

Thinking laterally there are relatively few films without a clear denouement, I can only think of westerns and Mean streets as an example. Most things either have a carcase/explosion/battle/glorious death or a twist / reveal

Rocky was local, well known and was picked to take part in the fight. The girl was his best friend's sister not Creed's girl, he didn' win the fight. That's pretty much of the opposite of the cliche.

Two Lane Blacktop.

Wonderful film if you haven't seen it.

Yeah, brilliant. I'd be surprised if anyone under 50 has seen that film because it hasn't been on (terrestrial) TV as far as I know since I was a rebellious teenager without a clue. May have been on one of the Sky classic movie channels though.

Philip French, BBC2 Saturday film night?
We'd just got a video recorder and I was too young for pubs.
Only chucked it a few years ago when I gave away the last VCR.

I think you can get it on BluRay now, keep meaning to order it.

CEX have a couple of second-hand DVDs of Two Lane Black Top for £1 plus postage.

Not in the calibre of TLBT – but a bit of retro fun with a good soundtrack that fits the OP’s brief.

Hot Rod 1979 (41 Willys Hot Rod / Drag Racing)

RAD neither
AFAIK it's never even been released on DVD. I managed to download a decent copy years ago off TPB - I believe the original source was a (HD?) TV broadcast.
