Are the 'stand alone' ones any good? Looking for something to scan mostly 35mm b&w, and some slides. Prefer not to have to connect to a PC as I've only got Linux and Chromebooks. Scan quality wise, sufficient to share with family etc - not sure I'd need masses of resolution for faded 70s slides and grainy b&w.

Awesome film, very messed up!
I looked at these recently and decided the best option was to send the photos off to be scanned professionally.
Unless we're talking about thousands of negatives then I just couldn't see an upside to doing them myself.
Might be an option (professional) although I've started using my old film cameras so there are new ones coming in too. Developed my first roll in about 25 years last night 🙂
It takes an age to DIY and even then the quality is nothing to write home about. Pay between 20p and 40p a slide for professional scanning.
