After failing for a second year to get Greenman tickets, after years of going, I’m basically giving up on them.
What others should I be looking at, it’s a pretty standard formula: beautiful countryside, chilled patrons, mainly Indy, bit of D&B bit of funk blah blah blah. Basically 6music live.
Where you off to?
Still umming and ahhing over Download; there's loads I want to see but I don't actually like festivals...

Bearded Theory would probably be your best bet. Or maybe Blue Dot, but there doesn't seem to be much info about that at the moment
Personally it's Y-Not as it's local and pretty much everyone I know goes. Not as chilled and probably not your vibe musically. We go for 50/50 whatever is on the lineup and having the crease with mates
Sorrynotsorry, but Green Man.
Basically 6music live.
Exactly how I described it the other day. I genuinely thought they were doing a Green Man playlist to celebrate the lineup announcement, but it was just coincidence, or rather.
Bearded Theory would have been second choice.
You're not "jkomo the prog punk" are you?
Nothing planned myself but MrsMC and a friend have started volunteering at festivals for the various charities that offer it. She did Leeds last year, her friend is a Glastonbury regular. It's not just the music, the friends they've made are all sound people.
Toilet duties are fun, obviously. The key phrase is "No, I'm sorry, you won't be getting your phone back."
Taking my 12 year old to a day of 2000 Trees for his first festival experience. Never been before, all reports are of a really nice vibe. Also, Alkaline Trio, yesssss!
Can certainly recommend both Bearded Theory and 2000 tress, great festivals with really good atmosphere.
Can't be arsed anymore.
Have got tickets for the Cure this summer but even debating going to that.
I am going to Greenman (sorry) 3rd year on the trot, there are some tickets popping up here & there on Tixel if you are quick.
I have also done End of the Road a couple times, very similar festival vibe & set in a lovely location, if we missed out on Greenman that's where we would go.
I've just come back to mention End of the Road. Haven't been since 2009(?) but it was a very similar vibe to Green Man.
Great, I’ll check those festivals out, and I’ll have a look on Tixel.
edit- I’m on tixel, and had no notification so
this is my link apparently if anyone selling Greenman
7500 others waiting so not particularly hopeful.
Holy shit, Pulp and Cmat at EOTW- and there are tickets. Looks perfect…
Also Fat Dog - I am tempted to go as well as going to Greenman
Doing Latitude this year for the first time. Not hugely inspired by the line up, but since the festival we used to got to every year collapsed a couple of years ago we've reached the point of missing festival-ing enough to jump back in.

That's the only vaguely festival type of thing I'll be going to this year and am really looking forward to it. Tickets are a 60th b'day pressie 🙂 which makes it even better!

EotR seems a good fit, line up has become more esoteric in recent years and it's a lovely site and friendly punters. Slightly biased opinion as I am on the doorstep. Not a lot of dnb there, have a look at Giles Peterson's festival for that. Similar location, think it's called we out here?
End of the road
Going for the Nth time, usually get tickets way before lineup is announced
Mystery headliner yet to be announced this year too 🪿
Big green man crossover
@timmys we are thinking about latitude too. I go with the assumption that some of the best music is on the little stages anyway.
We went to iow last year and my favourite stage was the cirque du freak

spent a lot of my years going to festivals Ireland, UK and Europe; love the music and atmosphere but I really hate camping now.

Yes but campervan
I'm not doing a tent, been there done that, I'd be glamping or doing a city festival

Sod camping - 1st pic is the aftermath of the campsite at Y-Not
Caravan or campervan - gamechanger
Big Feastival for us - great food & drink, lots of good music (tending towards the indie/britpop side of things, obvs) and the campsite was spotless when we left last year.
Ive done Bearded Theory for the last 5 years. Its a great festival with a very friendly "old ex punks and their families in tie dye" kind of vibe. Looking forward to it again this year.
I was considering borrowing a camper van, but I think the stress of using a mates van would outweigh the benefit.
Off to check out Bearded Theory…
Holy flipping shoot Bearded Theory is even better line up. Garbage, Pixies, Lambrini Girls, Los Bitchos, Warmduscher, the list goes on and on.
THE DAMNED!

I literally gave you this information at the top of the page 😂😂😂
Sorry
Sorry
Only pulling your leg 🤣 enjoy whichever one you choose
Quite fancy Bearded myself - been eyeing it up for a few years but never been
Sorry
They're playing greenman
There's a lot going on in the small writing of that bearded theory poster
The other great thing about Bearded Theory is how big the stage is compared to the area. You can get far far closer to an "arena act" than anywhere else. Last year i could almost touch Iggy Pop (wash hands afterwards)
Plus there is always loads of noisy punk stuff going on in one of the smaller tents to keep me happy.
Just a small local festival for us this year, Good vibrations society, on the Ashdown Forest. Always a nice vibe, decent music for the size of the festival and just over a mile from my house 😃
Nothing planned this year at all. I think after 30+ years of going to festivals I might be over it. Glastonbury last year was a surprise free ticket, the weather was amazing and so much music I wanted to hear. It might be time to go out on that high and do something different this year. I've got into solo hiking and the peace is quite addictive.
EDIT - apparently this is my post 8888 on Singletrack. That's a lot of waffle!
Upton Blues, Farmer Phils n Worcester Music Festival.
Upton Blues, Farmer Phils n Worcester Music Festival.
I've got a few mates in Upton after staying there for work before/during/after covid. Blues looks like a good craic, but never managed to make it
Campfield stage had some good bands later on, going into the smaller venues early to be sure of seeing who we wanted to see threw up a few nice suprises. Also popped into places on the off change and again some good gigs.
Only watched 2 big stage bands all the way through,Dusk Brothers and The Deadshots.
White Lion for food was decent.
Managed to get tickets for the Radio 1 Big Weekend on Sunday - I’m looking forward to CMAT, Olivia Dean and Holly Himberstone!
JUST BOOKED BEARDED THEORY !!!!
Thanks theartistformerlyknownasstr, and everyone who offered help and advice, I am very happy.
Got Greenman tickets, think this will be our 16th, went to EotR last couple of years and while it’s a lovely festival and has a great line up this year, I prefer GM and am already excited about returning and bumping into Pictish Trail for an incoherent chat at 2am.
Manchester Psychfest is a great day out. Might do Farmer Phil’s as have friends going and it’s local.
if you want best chance of Greenman resale through Tixel you have to setup the auto buy function and max the price out that you are willing to pay, you will still only be charged about 10% over face value.
Hi Nick, yeah I registered for that, but I’m going to withdraw from the resale now.
Its a shame, I love GM but missed out twice now.
