Many, many years ago, I used to have a holiday job rigging big screens in to such events. Was ace. Arrive before event, rig in. Sit around during event, tweak projectors (if necessary) and just go merrily along enjoying it all, then rig out.

Montreux Jazz Festival was always a joy.

Work hard. Play hard. Work hard. Good Life.

Edit: Have to leave Mrs. C behind, of course. She'll be fine.

I'll be fitting out a few temporary bars with the most important bits - Beer Lines. Two weeks of madness before Edinburgh Fest starts. Joy!

Ran the kitchen of a Mexican food wagon for 3 seasons at most of the festivals, awesome job not sure I'd keep up with the partying now though

Were you a
"Health & Safety Professional" on big money or a "Fire Marshal Employee" on little money?

Turns out the hierarchy is very much "what you do" as much as who you know.

In either case, I feel sorry for anyone who is in charge of H & S .

Working on the backstage bar at WOMAD was pretty cool.

The latter. To be fair at least they didn't make me try and put out the traditional tent bonfire.

Always remember being in school and thinking "haha, just say no, idiots!"

Just say no, mantra to professional success.

The power of "i'm going to bed" is a win for all time.

I'm scouring the local scrappy in readiness for my annual Belladrum 'art' projects 🙂
I'm getting started early but still expect most of July to be mental busy.

This sort of thing (the heart)

4 years of Uni putting up tents for Champs then Arena. Long hours, bloody hard work; did the open, T in the park, the Ryder, Donnie St Ledger and Grand National. A few well deserved pints and fairly built the shoulders up for the rugby season.

Used to put up tents for Womad at Reading in late 90's. Always a joy getting most of the punters from our local pub into the back of a Luton van and getting them on site for free.

I used to do the "humping*" for Bradford Uni back in the day. No way would I put up with that outdoors in this weather these days. one or two of the guys I used to do this with are now the 'pros' themselves.

* arrive at venue as early as 7am if a big band with a big sound/light rig, e.g Motorhead.

unload truck(s). Chuck PA cabs onto stage. gently lift other flight cases onto stage, unloading lighting rig, mixing desk etc carefully. Leave it to the pros to put it all together while you sit around. Get fed if you're lucky.

wait around for bands to arrive & do soundchecks. Sit in the barrier for support band if you're lucky, so you get to see the main band. Otherwise you do security for the main band. Or worse, stage door security.

wait around some more

at end of gig, wait for the pros to dismantle everything, then pull it off stage & chuck it all back in the truck(s). Finish time 1.30am if you're lucky. If you're VERY lucky there may be some food & beer left from the bands' riders.

There was always a crate of Holsten Pils (or two) for us to share though

finally, go for curry & beer, then bed

got to see shedloads of great bands for free though
