[#10055022]

I was just out tonight on my evening loop and as I came through a narrow gate there were some 8 maybe 18-20-year-olds all around the gate. I rung my bell to get through, they move slightly then a couple of them banged me on my helmet with the slap.

The younger, less responsible me with have got off and confronted them but the older me, thinks twice of the consequences. What should I have done?

Just to add I was not initiated as I had to finish going through that same point again - I more was angry as I would never do that to someone when I was young.

No bombers to hand?

Seriously you probably did the right thing, it could of gone horribly pear shaped if you'd confronted them.

I don't know but it may be worth reporting to the police if you can give a description? They might have form for being dicks.

What should I have done?

Do nothing.  Just ride away ...

Nothing you can do about it as this is the culture.

Avoid confronting them as you might get injured.

I don’t know but it may be worth reporting to the police if you can give a description?

You can report them but nothing else will come of it.

Did the right thing really, makes you angry but by stopping and having a go, the best possible scenario is you'd accomplish nothing, and the scenario could get worse than that obviously.

Personally I would have not rung my (if I had one) bell but pulled up and said "excuse me lads", I that it shows more confidence, if one still did hit me one the helmet I would have made joke about touching helmets / strange men that belittled the guy doing it  and would make his mates take the piss out of him.

Me being me would want to slap said perps. I've read a local news report lately from a small local town called matlock, local youths kicked **** out of a dog walker I believe around my age who they picked on. Annoying but suck it up?

I’d have let rip with a silent yet rancid fart. The best revenge.

everyone has a plan til they get punched in the face...

best way to deal with physical confict? avoid it. especially if its 8:1

if they weren't physically blocking your way then keeping moving was probably the best choice.

Best way to deal with this type of behaviour is one at a time. You should have pulled off from the track when out of sight then backtracked to their location and settled in somewhere to observe them. Pick out one of the weaker looking ones to follow home. Once safe to do so capture him and take him somewhere for torturing. Once you have the rest of their names and addresses then you can visit them all one by one and icepick their spines.

That is risky ...

That is terrible but why aren't the entire community do something about it?  The community can put pressure on the police or the council or the politician in that constitute to take drastic actions.

Unless the community come together to confront them they will get away with their actions.

In Borneo, different culture and country, we have village head or community leader to deal with such matters and if that fails the entire village would pay their family a visit (only as last resort).  However, our police are rather good in dealing with this sort of stuff and guarantee no more further issues.

Not a very good comparison, for one the police are stretched in the UK, so depending on exactly how ferrel these youths were, 8 on one, he could have taken a bruising and ended up sans bike and that would be that.

Granted it could simply be a bit of bravado and piss taking, and nothing more but you don't really know.

Had some young twunts wheely down the middle of the road in a deliberately obstructive manner t'other day - genuine urge just to mow the ****ers down. *

*  This has nothing to do with my wheelie jealously.

as i cycle a lot of towpaths and sustrans routes, i usually come across gangs of young teenagers, just like i was at their age, i always slow down and say excuse me or hello to them , and 99% of the time they move , and some have even said thank you for alerting them to my prescence as some old blokes and women ride fast at them shouting abuse r reporting them to the police that then come out and have a chat.

Strangly ganfgs of mioddle aged and elderley walkers seem to ignore my pleasant hello or thankyou, and some have even accused me of ringing my bell furiously and with anger, sadly somebody nicked the top bit of the bell leaving an expensive light and camera on the bars while on the mersey ferry inhabited by older persons that day.

Next time you see a group  say hello  to them

What rene59 said. A lad I knew years ago (70’s) was once accosted by a bunch of skinheads on his way home from the swimming baths in Durham, unfortunately for them he had a good memory for faces, & seeing as how they were local to him it wasn’t hard to ‘bump’ into them individually afterwards. The rest doesn’t take much imagination.

I wouldn't have been able to help myself from replying something like "your mum bangs my helmet harder than that" then they either get laughed at by their mates or you've got a load of angry youths to outrun!

That’s the sort of thing I’d do too unfortunately. My brain would be having a quick conversation with itself along the lines of

“Go on, say it, it’s really funny”

“Yeah, but we might get beaten to death”

”I know, but it really is funny”

I once took a bit of a pasting from three older kids when I was about fourteen. They hassled me for some reason, I said something amusing (to me) and they gave chase. I was quicker, but because I’m not right I came down with a fit of the giggles and therefore couldn’t run properly.

This

I find however remembering faces and when they are in tesco with their mum telling them what a little shite their kid is works too.

I'm sure vigilanty ism ? Would be satisfying too.

Funniest thing I have read in a while. I love the dismissive torturing of the first one to purely extract the names for the main ice picking. I lol'd.

Especially if the people are Rohinga…

They are not from our country.  In fact, we have many of people from all over the region in Msia legally, illegally etc ... We treat them the same as we treat anyone else.  In ASEAN we deal with issues our ways. Not the western ways.  West has no say whatsoever in the matter of ASEAN.  Stay out and stay gone in matters relating to governance.  However, if the west wish to do business they are welcome.

p/s: we don't have Rohinga in Borneo, it is advisable not to relocate them there as other tribes might not be so welcoming. We have tribes from the Southern regions from neighbouring countries and they are not people you really want to mess with put it this way. Seen conflict in spice island?

Slight distraction.

Our ex-corrupted theiving 1MDB MO1 PM used to bus people in, all sorts of illegals, to use them as ghost voters to distort the general election  (the details will make your jaws drop as our ex-PM became the world No.1 thief).  Our current PM and the entire country publicly call them theives and kleptocrats.   In EU you have bureaucrats but we one better you coz we have kleptocrats ...

Check out the US29 million cash stashed in our ex-PM house .... https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/asia/rm114-million-najib-razak-1mdb-malaysia-ccid-10276664

Also a lot of the money "invested" in London properties by ex-Msia PM ... ya, those are money stolen from the poor people of Msia ... the poor people.

The current PM is now draining the swamp of the previous ex-PM kleptocrats administration in Msia and as our current PM openly says to the world, if  the investors (if they are kleptocrats related) are there for short term gain or "manipulation" they can go away as the country don't need them.  But if they are there to be partner with building Msia and be nice to the people they are welcome.

We are ASEAN!  😀

I think an "urgh, you touched my helmet" comment would have been an opening for the other lads to rip the piss out of the helmet groper. Divide and conquer.
