Use Google Maps 3D for planning routes/rides/walks etc and because I'm a bit of a topography spod..then stumbled across Fatmaps earlier today. Bloody brilliant detail and it plots paths on mountains etc. Could look at this all day!

It's one of a number of route planning/visualisation tools (Komoot being another "hot" one) that all rely on OSM data. I've added quite a lot of tracks and paths over the years but it's a never-ending process
Hint: learn to input OSM data and help make these tools more useful 🙂
Just had a scroll down the front page, there is a lot of guff about "curated" this and that on there, not really 100% on what it is they actually do 😂
Seems to display GPX routes, etc on a 3D map which is cool. Is this a unique service that no-one else offers (not seen it before tbf). Do they do anything else?
I think it's brilliant, thanks for sharing!

Not unique. e.g. OS Maps app/website does the same.
The integration of OSM data and aerial 3D makes it interesting though.
yeah I see it's got bridleways, cycle routes etc marked on. They seem very faint though (just grey lines) compared to something like Viewranger which also uses OSM. Any way to change that? The integration of OSM data and aerial 3D makes it interesting though.
Even if you just use it to suss an area out beforehand it's handy...I'm going to Scotland in May so this is great.

We should start a thread on this as there's definitely stuff missing from my Garmin.
I find Fatmaps particularly useful for getting an overview on big mountain days, whether it be MTBing or more often Ski touring. It's great for getting a visual indicator if a slope is going to be too steep of likely at a higher risk of avalanches etc that can be tricky to spot from 2D maps. I also try to upload my successful/good tours on there if something similar doesn't already exist as have used existing ones a fair few times to plan my own.

There's two sides to this: inputting the data and updating the base/core map; Garmin (or any of the other "mapping" programs/companies) pulling the new data and generating their maps again.
Editing the core map isn't hard, the tricky bit is know which of the many options to assign to a path/track as it's not UK oriented so the options are more like individual aspects that you use to "build up" a legal English BW. There's some reasonable helpful Wiki pages on what everything means but there are some counterintuitive settings.
