Think this is a great series and can understand why the pundits are saying it'll sweep the TV awards next time around. However, I have two questions (without giving away any spoilers please):
1 - Is this really true ? (as it says so at the start ?.....). If so, then the mayhem & confusion caused by these few guys to a small American town years back was incredible !
2 - For those that have seen the film (I haven't), is it following the same plot. My mate says not. In which case, I refer back to Q1 !!
Ta
No, it's not true. That was the Coen brothers big joke. The wording about it being true at the beginning is exactly the same as the film, so I'm guessing it's just a nod to the same joke.
It's not the same plot at the film.
I'm enjoying it, but it kind of just makes me want to watch the film again. It's a bit like listening to a cover version of your favourite song.
1 Oh Yah.
2 Truth's just whatever narrative in life you chose to believe in.
He's kinda funny lookin
1. No
2. No
From Wiki:
"Factual basis[edit]
Fargo opens with the following text:
THIS IS A TRUE STORY. The events depicted in this film took place in Minnesota in 1987. At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed. Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred.
Although the film plot is completely fictional, the Coen brothers claim that many of the events that take place in the movie were actually based on true events from other cases that they threw together to make one story. Joel Coen noted:
"We weren't interested in that kind of fidelity. The basic events are the same as in the real case, but the characterizations are fully imagined ... If an audience believes that something's based on a real event, it gives you permission to do things they might otherwise not accept."[4]
watched the first one, quite enjoyed it, but not interested enough in the characters to watch what happens to them in the rest.
No need to get snippy.
I just watched it last night, after finishing True Detective (best series evAH!) and was quite impressed.
At first thinking WHY? an English bloke playing the lead?? (Shortage of American actors??!) But, he's actually pretty bloody good and he was just Lester by the end of ep 1.
