Watched episode 1 on catchup last night and now can't wait for episode 2 tomorrow. It's a kind of West Yorkshire version of Fargo, starring Sarah Lancashire as the weary but astute cop.

Watch episode 1 here:

seeing sarah "professional northerner" lancashire in the trailer was enough to put me off. Worth getting over my dislike?

My wife and I watched it on Friday night and we enjoyed it.

It seems to have the cast from ITV's Benidorm in it.

Impressed so far.
I thought Last Tango In Halifax was good too.

Preferring Hinterland on BBC4 for that 'not quite Twin Peaks' weird crime drama vibe at the minute.

Much better this week. Particularly when she got the boot in the face. It was quite well done. I'll stick with it.

I actually couldn't watch all of the first episode, the kidnapping was too harrowing for me.

It's certainly realistic in the same was as Fargo; cockups, coincidences and bad luck seem to happen all the time.

I expect the BBC will sell it to the Danes and the Swedes. And the Flemish, who gave us the similarly excellent and harrowing Salamander.
