Died overnight.
A true acting superstar.
RIP
Great actor
One of a small class of classic actors.
200 films, that's a lot of screen time.
what a career. http://m.imdb.com/name/nm0000457/filmotype/actor?ref_=m_nmfm_1
from Watership Down through Alien to Harry Potter and Indiana Jones.
RIP.
A brilliant actor, first became aware of him after Alien. RIP
He was always 'old' - so as a youth I thought he was immortal. R.I.P.
He carried on working through the pain of pancreatic cancer, that's amazing.
One of my all time favourite films is Midnight Express.
RIP
Oh no. )-: Cancer's a bitch.
Great actor - i hope they show 1984 as a timely tribute
A real shame. One of my favourite actors.
Bloody brilliant actor. Damn shame.
Outstanding actor. Thanks for the memories. RIP.
Fantastic actor - everything from Shakespeare, Harry Potter, Alien, cartoon voiceovers, going back to before many of us were born... to last thing I saw him in was Last Panthers, really good TV drama, still brilliant. RIP
I think the last thing I saw him in was Doctor Who. Quite amusing, seeing Matt Smith acted off the screen by David Tennant, only for John Hurt to demolish the pair of them. I was looking forward to a nice long series of War Doctor audio books.
Legend, RIP.
Elephant Man, 1984, Midnight Express, Alien, Spaceballs, Harry Potter and not forgetting as the War Doctor in Doctor Who.
and so many more.
RIP Sir John.
RIP Mr Smith.
his Alan Clark and Caligula were brilliant
Bugger, absolute legend
great classic actor a sad loss to the industry and media
his Alan Clark was perfect.
So many fine films.
Don't forget V for Vendetta!
The Storyteller was a classic.
Wow, I forgot about Storyteller! Loved that.
Independent put this up, 143 films in 4 mins, chronological order to 2012
A great shame.
My brief claim to fame was being on stage with him at the Bristol Old Vic, with Prince Charles in the audience.
so many great performances, i really liked the 1990's Richard the III was superb particularly it's setting in an alternate facist Britain
Well I'm very old. My first recollection of him is as Quentin Crisp in "The Naked Civil Servant".
Anyone know the name of the space documentary series I think he narrated around 1999-2002?
Such a good sport of him to reprise his role from Alien in Spaceballs.
Wonderful Actor, nice guy too it seems.
Mmmmmmmmmeeerrrrrllllinnnnnn.
