Heading to North Devon on Good Friday and was wondering if there is anything to do with a young family from Bristol onwards? Just a few hours in the afternoon before heading to somewhere for the night (reccommendations for a nice kid friendly hotel somewhere within striking distance of the M5 in the Minehead/Bridgwater/Taunton area too wanted!). Cheddar is the obvious one but the website makes it look a bit pants. Anything else?

I enjoyed cheddar but it might be dull for wee kids.

Wookey Hole. A little tacky for some tastes but lots for kids.

Depends on age of your kids but just off M5 by Weston Super Mare is a place called puxton park - farm, soft play, cafe etc

Wookey is pretty good but quite a way off the M5. How a bout the pier in sunny weston super mud? Good for a few hours.

If you're on the M5, then take a small detour to Burnham and grab some fish and chips from the cafe on the front, next to the rescue hovercraft building, you can park in Sainsbury's across the road, then go for a wander along the beach to have a look at the old Victorian lighthouse.
Or drive further along to Brean, and go for a walk along Brean Down, fantastic views across to Wales, and Watchet, Minehead and the Brendon Hills in the other.
Young family, sandy beach, what more do you want?
The old lighthouse, Burnham to the right:

Kids like sand.

Premier Inn has two in Taunton just off the M5. Both are fine.

That's a hotel, rather than an entertainment recommendation.

Cheers all. Think we'll aim for the Puxton farm place and then Burnham for fish and chips. Going to do exmoorzoo on Saturday enroute to Bideford to our place for the rest of the week...

And yes. Good Friday.... M5 at Bristol. I'm well aware 😉

+1 for Weston pier. Kids love it
+1 for cheddar, kids loved it
We always stop at the days inn off the m5 at Weston.. Bit low budget but clean and has a secret entrance to and from it without using the m5, 10 min drive to the pier.
*disclaimer*
Weston super mare is not for all and certainly has some "interesting" folk.

Might be the same Days Inn we've just booked at Sedgemoor? £48 a night for a family room - all we need is a bed for the night and good location...

Just had a look at this Puxton Farm place - looks ace for kids! Gonna try and get down there for a late'ish lunch and then onto Burnham for tea 🙂

That's the one dave boy wonder.
The "back entrance" is a real bonus. It's a bit rough and ready but clean, and plenty of tea and coffee.
One thing to remember tho is there is nothing close by other than the services which supplies the usual crap/expensive food.
