Off up to Glentress with the family for a week next month and after a few ideas. Will be taking bikes of course but kids are 4 & 7 and as Mrs ST isn't a mad keen rider it'll be a few fire road spins so what else should we look out for?
Got as far as a day in Edinburgh and a few solo trips out on the bike. Also after suggestions for family firendly restaurants and that.
Ta.
Not from Peebles me but he's my ideas: maybe 30 mins away - and a proper hoot for both 4's & 7's : eastlinks farm (zoo /farm / pedalongs / climbing castle thing).
Days out: for boys: from Edinburgh - get the train over the bridge to Deep Sea world.
Glasgow's transport museum - bit of a trek (1hr) but still has a 5 yo talking about it.
#Edit - there's bound to be tons more stuff locally - but they just arent quick off the mark this evening.
btw - I was thinking goape: but I'm sure they have an age restriction.
Brilliant spot for walking - loads of good family hikes at your disposal.
New Lanark is not too far away - 30 min drive? World heritage site - not sure how interesting it would be for the kids but it's something to consider.
There's a restored railway at Leadhills that goes up around the old mining area. It's quite short but might be worth a visit if you're close.
On the road to Edinburgh there's a pub called the Leadburn (only 15 mins drive from Peebles) which has a soft play for the bairns and the food is decent. No ale allowed in the soft play though if you wanted to go down the slide.
Once you're in Edinburgh there's a 1000 things to do, so you can pack the missus and kids off there if you want a proper day's riding in the Tweed.
Try these
Bowhill Estate near Selkirk, about 20minutes east from Peebles, cracking adventure park for the kids
Traquair House, about 5minutes from GT, a great maze for the kids and some cracking beer for the adults
Kailzie Gardens just to the south of the river Tweed about 3 miles out of Peebles, things for the kids as well as the adults.
Not sure when you are going but give WellyBooters a try
Robert Smails printing works at Innerleithen is great fun for the kids
If you don't mind a bit of a drive try Eastlinks.
Horse riding, swimming, play parks etc.
Pfft, what is wrong with a weeks riding? Wear their legs out... ๐ฟ

The Scotland Museum in Edinburgh is worth a day on its own.
Mining Museum also on the way to Edinburgh, my son when younger loved it.
Cinema is cheap/good in Galasheils if you need a wet-afternoon spot.
Interested in this too. Mentioned a long weekend up there to the missus last night and she came back with the obvious answer of "what are we meant to do when you're riding?" so mumbled something about going out for the odd afternoon but there was loads of stuff to do around there for familes... Seems like there is!
Might have to get something booked!
The Northumbeland coast is not too far for a day trip. Holy Island n'that.
