I have left it a bit late to book the holidays recommended on here earlier this year (I didn't try Mongolia). Has anyone found any bargains recently? Need to go last week July first week August, 2 mid sized kids, somewhere warm and near beaches. Not camping unless tent/cabin/caravan provided. Any places anywhere, or does anyone have a gite or similar?

We just booked 2 weeks all inclusive for 2 adults and 2 children in Majorca (4 star) at the end of August for £3,400 which I thought was reasonable (Thomsons).

1 week in a cottage in Scotland August bank holiday week £500, and I wasn't happy about that either!

But one week self-catering in Scotland means you will end up spending another £500 on food, another £500 on beer and another £500 on entertainment for the kids so that's £2,000 per week which makes my £1,700 per week for almost guaranteed sunshine, entertainment for the kids for 12 hours a day, unlimited ice creams (for the kids), unlimited cocktails (for my wife) and unlimited beers (for me) a bargain by comparison.

😉

johndoh - I believe the technical term is all-inclusiveitus.

Do you fancy a pizza?

A pizza? Its ten in the morning!

I know, but I just fancy a pizza.

But you've had two full english breakfasts already.

Ok... I'll leave it half an hour. Could you pass me my wine please?

Yes it is.

Your point is?

We went on our first ever one last year and loved how easy it made things with two young girls - although I was all on restraining myself and keeping to my self-imposed 'no beer before midday' rule 😀

Went on our first AI to Turkey in 2002 and have gone every year since, to various places. Great for a young family and had some fab holidays although now they are almost all grown up, we're renting a house in Spain this year for a change.

Johnson - if only Kirroughtree was a 5 minute ride from your Majorca hotel 😉

Reckoning on another £600 quid for the week including petrol. We set our kids expectations very low when they were still very young.

Some good cycling to be had in Majorca if you like that sort of thing.

My holiday exercise will be lifting my arm to my mouth...

That particular rule comes with a "doesn't apply on holiday" clause, I think you'll find.

Why wasn't I told? I won't make the same mistake this year 😀
