Any suggestions for a fall alarm for my dad?  I think one that would alert me or my wife by phone would be ok, and without subscription. I’ve seen this alzalarm one.

https://www.alzproducts.co.uk/wifi-panic-alarm

Hes not at all tech savvy so the simpler the better with a call button he can wear and press when required

I’m just sat here waiting for paramedics assistance to get him up after a fall and I think it’s now time for some more stuff.

ta muchly

Look up your local council, they may have a scheme.

I work for a provider of such equipment. There are several on the market both monitored and not monitored, which sounds more like what you are interested. The thing to be careful of is there is a requirement for all these services to be digital rather than analog by the end of 2025. This is because of the move away from copper phone lines. I only mention it because there might be some good “deals” on analogue kit hoping you are not aware of the switchover which will be useless in 18 months time

For additional peace of mind, we backed up a fall alarm, as supplied and monitored by the council, with an Amazon Ring Camera in the living room. This alerted us to my dad being up okay in the morning and we could check during the day whether he was in his usual place watching the television. If not we knew something was wrong.

Both times our parents needed fell and needed help, they'd fallen in such a way they couldn't reach the button!
Therefore I'd suggest looking into ones that activate automatically with a sensor.

My FiL wears one round his neck. At least in principle. He was all stubborn and negative about it until he learnt it was free, then it suddenly seemed like a good idea. Think there's a fee now actually.

My dad has a watch one - he just sees it as his watch, so no issues with wearing it. It also has a GPS tracker in it if he wonders off (has happened a couple of times)

There was a thread on here a year or so back with some recomendations

Would fall detection on an Apple watch be a solution?

My father's was provided by the local council.

He wore it round his neck and overall it worked well. We had the odd false alarm when he triggered it in his sleep (and he was too deaf to answer the call from the service provider) which was a nuisance.

Thanks folks. Some food for thought there. I’ll take a look see if our council are able to offer something. In the meantime going to try a cheap wi fi one off Amazon.
