When is the last time you came across a fake £1 coin in your change (go on check your pockets)?

Quick quiz, see if you can spot the fake £1 coin in the first picture?

Its a bit easier to spot in the 2nd picture, same coins and position, just flipped the coins over.

Must be getting 1-2 in my change every week & they are getting harder to spot!

Both the right hand coins look fake to me.

They're all fake. Send them to me for proper disposal.

Actually I have no idea without seeing them.

I'm with TuckerUK on the two right hand coins. Queenie's definitely got a tell-tale chin issue on the bottom right one. The Welsh one, top left, is dubious.

And don't even get me started on the table. No way that's real wood. 😆

Top middle looks like the design is off-centre. Top right looks discoloured.

Hard to tell from photos, though.

That's how I spot them stoner, thats what someone in the bank told me to check too.

top line 2nd from left?

Tails looks off-center and the Queens head (possibly) looks different to the others.

Top Right. Head and Shield don't line up when flipped.

Queeny looks like she's got quite chubby cheeks on the top right coin.

we dont know how ski flipped hem. There's at least three that dont "line up", but that may be they havent been flipped exactly.

Same here. No line of dots around the inside of the rim on either of them.

The crooks used to use Swaziland 1 Lilangeni Coins
Exactly the same weight and size as a pound coin and worth less than a button
Made AFAIK by the UK mint for Swaziland, discontinued some years ago but still widely found in UK vending machines and betting terminals

I guessed bottom left as it is too perfect. Without seeing them it is hard to tell.

Read somewhere recently that there is an estimated 30 million fake pound coins in circulation, now that’s industrial scale forgery

I have discovered a fake £1 after it was rejected by a vending machine.

The head & tail designs were pretty good, but the dead give-away was the quality of the text imprinted around the edge.

I remember seeing some "expert" on BBC breakfast show who said that up to 20% of pound coins in circulation could be fake.

Not far off, if you shop at some high street bakeries 😉

I have about 50%+ fakes from a particular place. I just always pay them back at the same place... They do seem to work fine in machines though.

Interesting, never seen the Swaziland coins before, or heard of them being used. Lead coins used to be quite common, but obviously the price of lead has affected that a bit, plus very few machines will take them these days. In fact, I'd say it be easier to pass off fakes to a shop assistant than to a vaguely recent coin validator in a machine.

Pah! This is all small change.
I've just become a Trillionaire by purchasing one of these.

Looking forward to paying for a round of drinks down the local with it. 🙂

youve got to ask yourself why they continue to put "I promise to pay the bearer on demand..." on it 😉
