Having followed the advice on here of getting an unused bike up for sale - it eventually received a formal offer on FB.

Can anyone talk me through the process now?

I've accepted the offer but not sure what happens next.

I'm using my OHs FB account so will have to tell her what needs to be done - is it like ebay where Paypal comes into play or do we have to send bank details etc?

I've never used FB or Marketplace before!

There isn't a system. It is just a way of putting you in touch with a buyer, just like a postcard in a shop window. Now it is up to you. Best thing about FB marketplace is that you can find local buyers and get cash on collection. If you are posting then I'd try and take a payment that can't be reversed eg bank transfer or paypal gift. Whether a buyer will accept that is another matter.

Cash or BACS is what I’d ask for via marketplace.

Thats the joy of it, the ease of transaction.

I like for things like the 28Kg PA speaker I'm selling. Who wants to have to post that? Local sales with local people and cash on collection.

If they are collecting, DO NOT let them use PayPal goods and services. Use Cash, bank transfer or Paypal gift/friends & family.

With goods and services, they can claim to have not received it, and PayPal will only accept a couriers proof of delivery as proof, which you won’t have if they collect.

I sold a bike this week on Mrsstus facebook account.
Got the buyer to put a deposit down via bank transfer and send me a pic of his drivers licence to make sure they were legit.
Then delivered the bike and had the balance in cash.

Works well for me, I think buying prices are better then eBay and people sell on it cos it's less faff than eBay and especially posting, and you seem to get more local buyers because FB itself advertises your stuff to local people.

Seems great for games console stuff, bought two PS4s and a PSVR on it. However the PS Aim was cheaper in Currys!

I’ve used it loads. Never had a problem. You have to be wary as usual. Scammers are around but they’re easy to spot. When I can be arsed, I like to string them along a little. Get them to the point where they think your finger is hovering over the “Pay Now” for a few e-tickets they’re definitely going to email.

I've always done cash on delivery at their house. If it's a dud or they've lied, I know where they live.

One additional question on this - do I actually have to be active on FB in order to use the Marketplace i.e. do I need a proper FB account?

Only had good experiences on Facebook marketplace. Great for accessing a wide local market.

Mostly done cash on collection but also posted stuff. Just create a PayPal invoice and buyer pays.

Sold loads on FB marketplace recently, all for cash upon meeting. Listed my 2015 Kona Process yesterday late morning and had a message within minutes, he bought it last night for cash.

I always meet people at a leisure centre 5 mins from home, and a good tip I picked up from another thread on here was to state no offers until after viewing.

Sold a road bike via marketplace today and it was just a case of putting me in touch with the buyer, who turned up in person with cash to pay for the bike.

I'd listed it a week back at a higher price, but when I dropped the price by £25 at lunchtime today I was inundated with contacts asking about it and it was gone my mid-afternoon.

Mr Chest - explaining how that happened would be helpful...

All - what do you do in terms of geographical settings and do you pay to boost your ads?

You should be able to set your location. Make sure it is correct. Facebook then prioritises local stuff to other users. I usually put a rough location in the as as well. No need to boost if it is priced well
