Does Yemen have any oil ?

I wouldn't plan on visiting in the near future 🙂

The article doesn't appear to mention "explosives found on planes" only "suspicious packages".

Many suspicious looking packages don't actually contain explosives.

Here's an example of a whole lot of extremely suspicious looking packages, which didn't, as it turns out, contain any explosives :

So you see, it could just be a load of bollox.

BBC website is a little behind News 24.

The packages found at E Midlands airport and in Dubai have been examined and found to contain explosives.

EL is right, the second on the left lets the side down.

Yeah it would appear so, I was going by your link. Apparently :

"The person, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue, said late Friday the "explosive device" was found in the last 24 hours in a courier company's regional hub and originated in a shipment from Yemen."

Although I dont understand "person, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue". Why the "anonymity" ? And if it's that sensitive, why tell us at all ? Sounds, well, suspicious.

"It contained a printing toner cartridge connected by wires to a circuit board and coated with powder, officials said."

Don't know what that's all about. But I would be suspicious.

US fighter jets escorted Emirates flight 201 into New York, with officials saying the action was being taken "out of an abundance of caution" because cargo from Yemen was on board

Because obviously if a bomb goes off on a jet, you really need a fighter plane close to hand so that it can.....................well, I'm not sure really. Shoot it down? Flip it's wing over to guide it away from anything important?

This really is a confused little story isn't it?

No. That's a dusty printer. You'll find them in any office. Dustier ones in Yemen.

Sending explosives through the post - why disguise them as anything else?

Maybe someone got annoyed with the outrageous prices of printer refills?

This a day after much of the UK aviation industry spoke out about excessive security measures, and the govt said it would look again at the regulatory framework.

The worry there isn't that a bomb goes off on board but they try to fly it into a building. If they try and fly it into a building the jets will shoot it down, like the third plane in the states.
