This is probably a daft question but I'll ask it all the same
Antifreeze in the expansion tank sits on MAX from cold(not used for 10hrs) all normal, when I get to work 40mins commute level is about an inch or so over the MAX level then drops back to MAX
No over heating temp gauge sits on halfway fans cut in when it should...
Is this the norm ?
warm water increases in volume - its perfectly normal
Max is below totally full to stop pressurisation when it expands
Its working normally and it is no cause for concerns
Tank is there for two reasons;
-Hot water can expand into without being lost (what's happening to you).
-In the event of the radiator blowing through the cap replacement water can be drawn from it.
EDIT: Yes, daft question! ๐
The max and min levels are the levels when cold, so all is good.
Many thanks !
...so not that Im doubting any of your answers cos I know them to be true (asked a friendly AA bloke I saw in the street)
why is it in my other car the water stays at the same level ? I used it this eve and checked when I got home it was at the same level start and finish ! Both cars are nissans one a micra the other an Almera tino...weird or not just different engineering perhaps !?!?!
