Why would gridlines be missing if they are switched on under

TOOLS/OPTIONS/VIEW/GRIDLINES and their colour is set to AUTOMATIC (black)

there are no cell borders. The whole sheet is blank (It came like this from a workmate)

I want to switch on gridlines to a worksheet I've added, but despite being switched on they are invisible.

Any chance there's an object e.g. textbox covering the cells?

It's not the answer but can you colour borders in specific areas of the sheet?

Yes - I've put "borders" on a load of cells just so I can see where to type.

Not something I've ever encountered if gridlines are on as you say, and borders haven't been formatted white then I haven't got a clue.... ask your colleague what the fwck they've done?
