why are people still going on about Rio Ferdinand ffs. He isn't there. A wasted interview, i want to know about people in the squad, how are they doing, are they set and confident for monday, not about what some ex-England player's been tweeting.

I think we should all move on to Joey Barton, he clearly feels he should be there on footballing ability...

I am in São Paulo and just watched the Germany Portugal game whilst on the main screen we had Brazil vs Argentina (a friendly but not so friendly!). It was Argentina 4 Brazil 3, and I have to say Messi scored some stunning goals.

wish i hadn't watched germany v portugal.

one day i might be able to watch the germans celebrating with a degree of magnanimity on my part - but i seriously doubt it.

The finish on Brazil's 3rd was superb, as was Messi's 3rd.

Looking forward to seeing Spain Italy later as well as supporting Rep Ireland tonight.

The England Euro 2012 team visited an orphanage in Poland this morning.
"It was heartbreaking to see their sad little faces with no hope" said Igor, aged 6.

Looking forward to the Italy Spain game, nothing else has really interested me so far. I think Silva will play as striker.

6 midfielders against 9 defenders is never going to blow your socks off, is it?
Tiqui-taca.

Tiqui-taca

i seem to remember it having a purpose.

it's ok playing 6 midfielders when one of them is messi.

get torres or llorente on

Spain started without a striker. Looks like they're finishing without one too. What a donkey!! £50 million? I'd give him his bus fare home 🙂

bringing the striker on did open italy up a little though. torres might not have taken them but he still had chances.

i'd like to see llorente start the next one.

Made me laugh, though I feel honor bound to point out that Igor is not a typical Polish name!

I too was slightly disappointed with Spain, totally agree with tm about the arsenal comparison.

Come on Ireland 🙂

Croatia could ruffle a few feathers, I quite fancy them against the Italians, not so sure against the Spanish, but it should be a good game, 2 teams playing the game the way it should be played.

cant bring myself to make a prediction for todays match, half tempted to stick a tenner on a french win just to ease the pain.

England Expects (england expects a 50% chance of disappointment)

I can't see us getting anything out of tonight's game. A draw would be the best we can hope for, I reckon. And even that's unlikely

It'll be interesting to see how the other game finishes though, to see what kind of form they're both on. As that's where we'll need to pick up points.

Oh... and another vote for Spain being incredibly tedious to watch. All those endless little triangles didn't often seem to bother the Italian defense much

+1

Just hope that rain holds off in Paris - Nadal vs Djoc far more appealing than English football.

I can't see where an england goal will come from.

So have got Evra and the French goalie in the fantasy team.

Brave management from the Italians to try something new against the Champions. That, and the way they played, deserved more than the draw they got.
Spain's system didn't help themselves. No goal threat. Fabregas is no Messi.
Llorente could be the missing link.

Might put a couple of quid on Lescott as first scorer too. He used to score loads for Everton, and Roy's teams depend a lot on set pieces. Two good keepers playing so 1-0 either way for me.

Whatever we do, it isn't going to be done 'in style'. More's the pity. I expect to have my head in my hands by the second half as they lump another hopelessly over-optimistic long ball up to Andy Carrol, causing not a flicker of worry in the French defence

Actually.... do I even want to watch this tonight

you have to define style, really

i just want to see something that allows a glimmer of hope, even a loss where we play with a bit of grit and/or passion.

i'm intrigued to see how hodgson lines us up. if he plays his usual banks of four it's hard not to see gerrard and parker being overrun.

I expect to have my head in my hands by the second half as they lump another hopelessly over-optimistic long ball up to Andy Carrol

all the pundits seem to think that if there is a chink in the french armour, it's at the centre of their defence. it wouldn't surprise me if at some stage we are hitting carrol from 40 yards as it might well be the best way to get at them. to be honest, and i'd love to be proved wrong but i can't see much joy coming from young and wellbeck trying to play around them.

who cares. Half an hour till coverage starts, 90 mins till kick off, time to stop worrying about who may or may not play and just get behind the boys!
