The problem is, the remain campaign could only give real positives, since they were selling a real outcome. The leavers could give any positives they liked, because they were selling an imaginary one. Or rather multiple imaginary ones.

It's hard to sell a real bike for the real price when the competitor is selling imaginary hoverbikes that apparently make you money, while telling everyone your bike costs £350 million and there are 80 million turkish people in the box.

First off, I’m not convinced by the campaign’s aim, and here’s why. Some stop Brexiters recite, almost as a mantra, that the referendum was only advisory (despite the government sending a pamphlet to every household in Britain promising them that the government “will implement what you decide”). If the referendum result was simply cancelled, it would be regarded as a coup against democracy not just by leave voters, but by many remainers. Faith in democracy may never be rebuilt – “more people voted for Brexit than for anything else in British history and the establishment thwarted it”, the refrain would go. It would surely be the greatest shot in the arm for the radical right in British history

In meatspace pro Brexit people seem less keen on calling people traitors, they're reasonable people, but by definition are defined by what they are against (the EU) not what they are in favour of… I don't know two who share the same view of what should replace EU membership, and I do know a fair few.

Have a look at Politico.eu , of course there have been meetings going on behind the scenes. Davies and Barnier are just figureheads and the EU in particular has been very keen to keep individual countries in-line hence the public position that it’s calling the shots which in reality of course it is not. Even stories in the UK press that May’s office is really running the negotiations.

As for Democracy and “giving up”I posted a few relevant numbers which show how Parliament has voted on triggering A50, no to THE single market and customs union

Davies is a "[b]figurehead[/b]" and it's really the unelected behind the scenes staff in control? I suppose to some extent they must be (well those that haven't been forced to move on for talking truth to power) at least until the government decides what they want to replace EU membership with. Davies' recent comments (about the EU 'cherry picking' if it reduces our access re services) suggest that the "cake and eat it" holding pattern bluff has been upgraded to a "keep the whole cake and eat it all" approach… which I suppose is progress of sorts. Or a method of preventing speedy progress, I'm genuinely not sure. I'd suggest that it might be the latter… that he wants us out of the EU, and in "transition", before the shape of our future relationship with Europe is set out to "the people".
