Wildly innovative, stunningly beautiful, incredibly powerful, and very Mac.

Hmm

Coming soon.

Ah.

I used to use SketchBook Express, don't really have a need for it these days

Coming soon.

That's for a new project they are working on. Not very intuitive I agree.

Also, Pixelmator is not free, but does have a free trial. As does Flying Meat's Acorn.

Gimp is free.

lots of options

Yeah I know - but rather than a simple list I would have liked some recommendations, which is why I asked here rather than simply searching the app store.

Point about paint is that it's really simple, which means there's no faff.

Might help if you gave an example of what you want to accomplish, as I said there are basic tools built right into Preview which I suspect a lot of Mac users don't know about but might do the job.

Also Paint is legendarily shite so I'd be a bit wary of anyone recommending it or anything like it 🙂

Flying Meat's Acorn.

And it's only 15 quid! Looks like I will have to add it to my expanding list of things to use when I end my Adobe subscription!

I'm a big fan of Pixelmator. Worth every penny.

Use it both on my Mac and on my iPhone.

I just want to edit a profile pic for work. I think an Adobe subscription might be overkill?

Crop/resize it? Change background colour? Alter contrast, brightness, etc? Draw on moustache/sombraro?

EDIT: easiest would be just post it up, some kind soul will sort it for you. 🙂

You can do that with Preview.

I saw the edit button on preview but it's greyed out...

I think markup tools in Preview might be too advanced.

So what you are saying is you want to crop out the Captain America suit ? 🙂

BTW why not just do it on your phone ?

If its just one or two step effect / actions aside from the mark up and edit tools in preview theirs usually an online tool for whatever you're trying to achieve - like 'make round'.

Paintbrush is perfectly useable. Pretty much does what ms Paint does, plus it's open source if you're into that sort of thing.

It's not on the app store, but have a google and it'll show up.

Crayons and a camera? Maybe cut it out with safety scisors (only with adult supervision)

Or just open up paint on one of your PC's 😉

Context is everything.

Binners and Molgrips will they/won't they storyline is something akin to Ross/Rachel in Friends.

Cropping and fiddling with photos? There's an app for that: Photos. Free with the mac. Though they do hide the 'edit' button a little.

Pixelmator is cheaper and easier than photoshop unless you've previous photoshop experience. Pixelmator works very well and it's in the Mac App store. If all you want is to crop, rotate, change exposure/contrast, then Photos will do that for you. On Mac or iOS.

There's always GIMP.

Photo is a bit ****y, it's created a 'moment' for me.. doesn't appear to offer much actual editing though.

What I wanted to do was crop a circular piece out of the picture and give it a border. I managed with Preview in the end - I thought the editing was greyed out, but they've apparently changed the icons so the one that looks like an edit is some kind of touch related markup button or something, and the editing is actually the handbag. There's an elliptical selection tool which let me crop it round.

Normally I'd end a post like this with 'thanks for the help' but this time you can all bugger off 🙂

well, if you'd said that to begin with...

Still, you can more or less do that with photos. Rotate, crop, vignette. All under the 'three slider'/burger button when you view a single image.

How? I can't see any options for cropping anything other than squares/rectangles and can't see where to add a border. The "Markup" extension looks like the same tools available in Preview.
