I wouldn't risk it. In my experience your choice of shopping at a UK airport (LHR / LGW) is greater than almost anywhere else in Europe / North America. (Dubai, Singapore etc are a different story)
Might as well get it out of the way and avoid a panic at Koln.
If you post some pictures, then you may get help deciding which one too.
Gatwick
Having spent hours and hour over many trips at Bonn airport it is pretty poor, Gatwick is like a shopping centre in comparison!
P'raps too late, but I'd vote for LGW too. Which terminal, though?

Had a pint, checked back here, bought a bloody tie from bloody Harrods. Taking it to what might be one of the dirtiest places I've been for some time. Wish it luck.
