MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Just got one.
I would like it to be like an iPad so I click on an icon and can scroll through my music library.
Is this possible or do I have to ask for the music?
Well it's an Amazon product so you'll be plumbed into Amazon music by default (ours is) or I think you can use Spotify but I don't think it'll talk to iTunes (awaits inevitable correction)...
Probably a question to ask before you spend money. 😀 You’re talking about iTunes rather than Apple Music? Think you might have to connect it to your iPhone/iPad via Bluetooth, not sure it can access your iTunes library by itself. Why didn’t you get a Homepod?
I’ve just done a search for the device, ‘cos I’ve never seen or heard of one, and it seems that the screen is a supplement to Alexa, but it doesn’t appear to support Apple Music, but possibly supports Amazon Music; I didn’t see any reference to either in the Wiki article. I would guess that you’re supposed to do all your selections by voice using Alexa, with a manual selection as an option.
When it comes to selecting music, I either listen to the radio, or select ‘songs’ in my library, then ‘shuffle’, so I’ve got my own radio station with no presenters, or else I’ll scroll through ‘artists’ and pick an album to listen right through. Friends have Alexa, and I derive a certain amount of amusement from their attempts to get Alexa to actually play what they’re repeatedly asking for.
I’ve got around 60,000 tracks in my music library, now split between Apple Music and Apple Music Classical - I can’t possibly remember all that’s in there, so I’m constantly surprised by what I find. I’ve never tried Siri, can’t see the point, I’m holding either my iPad or my phone, why would I need to talk to the bloody things?
Edit; I hadn’t thought of an iTunes option, it’s been mostly absorbed into Apple Music so I tend to forget about it.
Why didn’t you get a Homepod?
A HomePod Mini is the cheapest option there, and a second can be added later and twinned to become a stereo pair.
You can link them according to Apple.

But, yes, I found it frustrating also that the touch screen has no real touch UI except for minimal things. Pretty sure you have to ask/speak.
I bought the echo show so that I can see what tune is being played on the radio rather than having to shazam it.
My normal echo happily plays my apple music when I ask for it but it's nice to scroll through my tunes rather than trying to remember my complete library.
All my various Amazon Alexas play from Apple Music. Good, until visitors ask it to play their choice of music and I end up with weird ‘New Music’ and ‘Replay’ selections.
Open the Alexa app. Go to settings -> music and podcasts. Select Apple Music. Save.
Edit. Tried an apple HomePod mini. Garbage. Siri as useless as ever and would not play BBC radio stations on request.
HomePod Minis are great. The reason that it's not straightforward to play BBC Radio on them is I'm sure down to a conflict between the BBC's requirement to be logged into an account so they can monitor usage, and Apple's extremely strict user-data privacy policy, which neither party will concede ground on! There is however apparently a workaround involving creating Siri Shortcuts, bit off a faff but once done doesn't need to be repeated. Not something I'm actually bothered about these days though as BBC Radio is complete garbage now with the removal of Popmaster from R2 😂
I actually find Siri pretty good on the whole, it gets most requests I make right, most of the time. There's an option somewhere for it to learn your voice so when that's switched on, the more you use it the better it gets (although I'm not going to claim it's perfect!)
I love my Homepods, but this...

...is on the BBC hit list. I'm currently using this workaround and the BBC have managed to insert an audible message in to the stream saying (paraphrasing); "the way you are listening to this stream will stop working in the future. Most smart speakers can play bbc radio stations by asking the smart speaker to play the station. if this doesn't work then please contact your smart speaker manufacture". Nobbers.
