Much weirdness and all seems plausible but my spider senses are tingling. Sorry, long one.
I'm the buyer, purchased groupset, advertised as coming off a new purchase following upgrade.
Seller is a new seller with zero feedback (hadn't spotted that).
I won the auction, paid, got an email from the guy to say paypal payment was pending but would send all the same. Money has left my account but as the guy says, i can see it's pending.
Group set arrives, looks pristine, i'm happy.
Roll on 3 weeks and get an email from the chap, payment still pending, he's registered the wrong email (missed the dot between co and uk) and not verified his account.
I've called ebay who confirm as such and suggest he cancels the sale and either 1: re-list and i can buy again or 2: Cancel ebay sale, send me a paypal invoice (not friends/family) and I'll pay.
Assuming he cancels the sale and i get my refund, he can't then reverse it somehow? I can't see how he could.
Bit weird but seems ok, the risk is for him here. You have the item, I'd just make sure the refund is fully cleared before paying again, as long as it's all done though ebay/paypal you should be protected.
Yeah, my hunch is he's just a pillock.
When you are new on ebay they withhold funds until they've done all sorts of checks i think, sounds like he's ballsed them up
Just pay him friends and family. You've got the stuff, no risk to you, (or him).
Edit - cancel sale first to make sure he doesn't get paid twice.
Yep, all the risk is with him as if he cancels and refunds he has to hope you either pay him or send the item back.
The mistake he made was sending the item with a payment pending. Should never do that and should find out why it is pending (by calling PayPal) before doing anything.
I had a problem once where I'd sent to wrong email address, (was provided wrong same as you), I'm sure I just reclaimed the payment myself and then sent to correct email account.
I'd also be concerned that if this person cant type an email address, how well would they have removed this group set from the bike!

You're equating typing and spannering in the same context ? Just because they missed 1 character ?
