Just sold my car on ebay and got pretty much what I wanted for it. It's only been a day, but I was a little worried by the lack of contact from the buyer, so I called him.
He had received my emails but was waiting to sort out a lift from Liverpool to here (near Durham) to pick up the car.
The listing clearly states that a £100 deposit should be paid by paypal as soon as the auction finishes - he hasn't paid it. The remainder to be paid in cash on pickup.
The buyer says he can't get up to pick up the car for at least a week, possibly more, which leaves me in a bit of a pickle.... I've bought a new car already and need the cash. Also, if he decides not to go ahead, I want to offer 2nd chances to the next couple of bidders before they buy other cars.
So, what would you do?
Have you asked for him to pay the deposit? He needs to o ey by the terms whether he has sourced a lift or not.
Ask for a deposit, no deposit no car
Not sure how it works with ebay motors but you can report a buyer for non-payment after, I think, 5 days now. Maybe that's the route to take if he still doesn't come up with the deposit. Happened to me on several occasions recently but sadly, after 5 days, the second chance offer is a bit of a waste of time as most folks have bought elsewhere 👿 .
Cheers for the advice. Just sent a message telling him I can't wait more than a week for full payment, and that he needs to paypal through a deposit ASAP if he wants to hold the car. Pretty sure I'm not being unreasonable.
Nowt's ever easy with ebay - I was hoping some local guy would buy it on Monday and pick it up and pay for it on Tuesday. Now I'm skint and stuck with two cars 👿
