If I sold an item on eBay for £895 buy it now how much would I receive after paypal and ebay charges?

They're really not - auction houses I deal with take around 35-45% of the final price all said and done.
I reckon the eBay prices tend to be quite a bit higher than they'd be on the regular 2nd hand market and they take a lot of grief away.

Free listing for your first 20 or 30 items per month so that saves you a whole 35p 😉

Basically, you need to plan on your item selling on ebay for about 15% more than it would elsewhere. Which, often it will. And also be careful of postage charges because you'll be charged fees on those too- it's easy to lose out on postage.
