Bought a set of forks off eBay and paid by paypal, sadly there's a scratch on the stanchion which wasn't on the listing, emailed the bloke who responds promptly, looks ok at the mo. I suggest it may be a mark and I'll try to clean it off but might be bad news. Try to clean it, definitely a scratch.

Email the bloke to tell him it's definitely a scratch, he responds with "there wasn't a mark on them when they were posted, take it up with parcel force" as many of you will know I can't take it up with parcel force, he has to. I emailed him to tell him this but i've heard nothing. His brusque response made it obvious he was trying to wash his hands of the prob so I've started a dispute with eBay.

My questions are; what happens next and how likely am I to get my money back? Will he have to pay the return postage if all goes my way?

Report it to PayPal - they'll sort out a refund.

sounds like an arrogant ****. Just file a complaint through paypal/ebay and make sure you leave him negative feedback.

1st off did he list the forks with 'returns acepted' ?

if so, email him saying you'll return the forks as the scratch wasnt mentioned on the listing.

If he 'does not acept returns' go through paypal - for exactly the same reason.

He listed them as returns not accepted. How long does the whole process take?

Item not as described - just follow the ebay procedure

I had this about 6 weeks ago with a pair of Magura forks , the listing said no returns and the forks were described as in good working order. When I recieved them they were leaking oil the bushings were worn very badly and the compression lockout was seized solid.

After mailing the seller without success I started a dispute , strangely this is when the seller decided to get in touch 😯 .Several emails later(over about 2 weeks) and ebay found in my favour and I got a full refund including post costs although I had to fund the return postage myself (used collect+ £4.99 tracked)

Says who?

UK law trumps US PayPal/eBay rules.
