I got a ban from ebay for not meeting their ever increasing standards as a lot seem to be at present and while yes i could have done better etc etc, what annoyed me was the fact that on the seller dashboard/breakdown 8 of the listed points that you are scored against were due to items not being received.

The first time it happened it was a little annoying but there was nothing i could do, they were sent unrecorded as they were cheap items (under £10) so you take your chances etc. After that i kept a proof of postage so that at the least i could claim from the post office if it happened again. Didnt happen for a while until i listed a load of items under £10 and i got hit a further 7 times. No email asking where there item was, just case opened - item not received. This time i sent a reply to say you will have to wait 14 days as this is the allowable time for 2nd class delivery, then refund you, however i will open a claim with the royal mail after this time so they can investigate if its an internal issue or external issue, either way its taken seriously.

All of the cases got cancelled with no further correspondence! Strange hey! So clearly at the end of a scam, ebay dont care they say that they must have received the item and its your fault for not sending it quick enough or without tracking. I argued that sellers should be made aware of buyerswho have multiple cases of items not being received but according to them they deal with it. Now the amusing bit was when the ebay CS person accepted there was a flaw and that yes there was nothing stopping someone doing this, and only after they had done it repeatedly would they draw attention to themselves. I did laugh when he squirmed his way out after i told him id recorded the conversation. Anyhow, that aside, it turns out you can make X free purchases on eBay without implication, all you have to decide is, is 2x, 3x, 4x etc enough to raise the flag.

I reckon its 3 in 3 months, 5 in a year, not that im willing to try but pretty slack on ebays part and just shows how little they care about private sellers especially now they change their rules monthly and more than 1 in 50 issues puts you into below standard category.

Shame really that ive been there for 11 years and any problem was always dealt with by courier collection and full refund immediately. Oh and feedback is utterly pointless, counts for nothing, only helps get you restricted.

Rant over, and if you do shop for free choose a company that doesnt pay tax or kills bunnies

You seem to have been very unlucky to constantly have been targeted for fraud.

Odd that is was always for such low valued items.

As an aside, I didn't even know you got rated as a seller if you were just a private bod.

*checks rating*

strangely no items sent by courier with tracking failed to make it. Also if you bought something and didnt receive it you would firstly want a refund, and secondly pleased that the seller was contacting the royal mail on your behalf to nab the dodgy postman.

Oh and yeah half the problem is the seller dashboard is so well hidden you forget about it until its too late

The system is that, its a system and automatic. The scammers are well aware of the loopholes and if things are sent normal post it's trivial for them to click "not received"

How come that goes directly to "above standard" from "below standard"? Where's "standard"?

Never even thought to do that and loads of the low value stuff I order is just sent 1st class RM. In fact most of the stuff I buy on Ebay is low value stuff.

I'm above standard though 2 of my sales had defects apparently. One item arrived having been broken by the package company so that's one I guess.

I see that I've sold over 4k of stuff so that sounds good - not sure how much I've lost in fees though....

They also dont seem to track if you cancel a sale for reason "other" meaning if the buyer doesn't respond in a week or clicks accept then you get the fees refunded

I've happily use ebay over the years as a seller, but our time together is coming to an end.

I have no problem with ebay trying to make sure that the buyer doesn't get ripped off, though the latest ToS are increasingly favouring the buyer, and not the seller.

Thinking back, once the seller lost the ability to tell their side of the story via feedback some years back the unscrupulous buyer became more common.
