We will be in touch
Been emailing EasyJet to clarify this one. So am sure I am right. 2 seemingly identical scenarios but with two completely different weight limits:
2 of you go on holiday. Both seats are booked at the same time. You want to take one set of skis and one bag. You get 32kgs to share between the two bags.
2 of you go on holiday. Each seat is booked individually. One books a bag, one books a set of skis. You get 32kgs just for the skis, and 20kgs for the bag (i.e. 52kgs).
Why have they designed it that way?
Cynically? - So they can squeeze a bit extra from you at check-in?
To try and keep everyone form taking 32kg (or even 52kg) each? Just like the bike policy...
Don't you pay more booking fees if you book the tickets seperately though?
To try and keep everyone form taking 32kg (or even 52kg) each? Just like the bike policy...
If you take a bag and a bike, you pay the bag and sports equipment fee but the bike exempt from excess baggage charges up to the maximum allowed per passenger.
so you could have a 18kg bag and a 32kg bike without incurring extra charges
I thought you were wrong, and that you could have a bag at 20kg plus ski carriage at 32kg, reading the small print this doesn't seem to be the case! Although I've never had an issue before with them, the wording seems such that it is referring to the individual and not the group as the wording says each passenger and not the group, I guess get to the airport and they'll realise it is two people with two seperate items of luggage.
If it's any consolation we flew to Geneva before Christmas and the missus had 46kg across a ski and normal bag. No one batted an eye lid except me who had to carry the lot plus my own!

Easyjet Wording:
Sporting equipment
Each passenger is allowed a maximum hold baggage weight of 50 Kgs including any sports equipment, subject to available space. The maximum weight for any single piece of baggage is 32 kgs.
An additional non-refundable fee is charged per item per flight for the carriage of the sporting equipment as set out in the table below:
Currency Per flight (when pre-paid) Per flight (paid at the airport)
GBP 25.00 30.00
EUR 30.00 35.00
CHF 40.00 50.00
DKK 220.00 300.00
CZK 750.00 1,000.00
HUF 8,000.00 10,500.00
PLN 120.00 150.00
MAD 350.00 400.00
Payment of the additional fee increases your checked-in hold baggage allowance (including additional item) to a maximum weight of 32kgs.
Where your total checked-in hold baggage weighs more than 32Kgs, normal excess baggage charges as set out above shall apply in addition to the above fee.[/i]
Yeah I thought it was only bikes that let you go past 32Kg (up to 50Kg) rather than any sports equipment (e.g. skiis), without incurring excess baggage charges?
ads-b..... was this resolved. I'm in the same situation. I'm travelling tomorrow with my boyfriend. I've booked a check-on bag & he's booked a snowboard bag. Its unclear if we have 32Kg or 52Kg. I'm getting conflicting answers from customer care.
Help
Even when you check in you'll get conflicting answers, even in the same airport from desks side by side. 12 of us flew one year, some got charged, some didn't. Some made it out OK but got charged on the way home.
When you dig in to the website that conflicts with itself too.
However, everyone that got charged had one single bag/box with all their gear in it. I had a bag under 20kg and a separate bike under 32kg and was fine both ways on several trips (DH bike, armour, tyres, tools, bag is easily up to the limit).
When I've paid for 'sports equipment' (either bike or double ski bag) it's always appeared to be weighed and treated independently to my hold bag.
I've always worked to bag not over 20kg plus sports gear not over 32kg, but looking at the above that would break the 50kg limit.
Best bet - print off the page of the website that shows what you've done and take it with you and politely point out you are sticking to the terms.
