Looking for free DVD ripping software to rip a couple of the DVD's I've got so I can stick them on my android tablet.

Anythong decent that will rip copy protected DVD's or am I better off just grabbing them from torents?

You need a couple of bits of software, make MKV and Handbrake.

Use make MKV to rip, then use handbrake to reduce the file size so you dont use up too much sd card space unnecessarily.

It takes a while. Make MKV might do a film in 20 minutes or so, handbrake in 40

When you have done the make MKV primary scan, select the file which is biggest and deselect the rest. Explore the biggest file and deselect the sound you want eg dolby digital but keep what you need of course. Deselect the subtitles you dont need too.

You will need to experiment on handbrake to get screen size and resolution right but once you do, store it and off you go.

I used to use handbrake and a plug in called DVD43 but that wont work on my new 'puter,

I use dvd Fab to rip the DVD to my PC then handbrake to convert to a mkv file as it's much smaller.
stage 1 takes about 30 mins. stage 2 about an hour.

I think grabbing them off torrents will just open up your computer to all sorts of thing s you really dont want on your computer.

Not sure why people are using 2 bits of software? Maybe it doesn't work on all OSs but on Win7 all you should need is handbrake with the .dll mod listed above.

I couldn't get Handbrake to work for me, I ended up using Freemake.

PRobably worth pointing out here that downloading things you don't own is theft, and theft is only acceptable on STW if you do it via the classifieds.

I used YIFY's films for my DVD collection. Their knowledge of encoder settings, to produce a high quality (but small file size) film is excellent.
