Old DVD player packed in a couple of years ago, bought another cheap toshiba one, and haven't really used it til now.

Looks like there may be an issue, player only has a scart socket, no HDMI or even audio jacks, and using a scart to my telly, I can't get any sound. Is is the case tat the telly scart doesn't have an audio function, so I'm snookered?.

Only want it as the wife has Scrubs full set of DVD's, and I reckon the wee yin would enjoy it.

Ta.

No thread is too dull for lockdown 🙂

So SCART carries audio, as well as composite, S-Vidoe and RGB video, that's why it has so many pins. More info here if you're bored https://www.leadsdirect.co.uk/technical-library/pinouts-wiring-diagrams/scart-wiring/.

Anyway it should be outputting audio to SCART. I'd go into the DVD menu and ensure it's set to output audio to SCART, it may also have an optical output and be sending digital audio via that instead. Can you post a picture of the rear of the DVD player?

Assuming that all looks OK then try another SCART lead. Dunno where you're based but if you're near Chesterfield I have a spare that I'm holding onto for no reason you can have.

Rip the DVDs and watch them on computer, or whatever. Or, seeing as you own it, just download the files from bit torrent and be done with it.

Thanks jef and hols, bizarrely, it's just started working! Bizarre, mibbe a loose connection in the scart or summit.
