It's the one where you read your meters every month and you get billed for the gas and leccie that you've used...we're quite frugal so think it might be a bit of an money saver but I'd love to hear if any STWers have and good/bad experiences...
Thanks in advance.
Yes very good, BG weren't very good at setting our direct debit at a sensible level. I told them it's not rocket science, last years usage plus whatever for price increase and divided by 12 but they always wanted to set DD at a lot more than this.
Went onto the energy smart tariff early this year and it's great, get a text message and email each month reminding us to submit a meter reading, log in to account on BG website, submit the readings and they bill us for exactly what we've used that month and take it by DD on a set date. It does rely on you being honest and obviously the bills will be more in the winter months but at least you don't have to pay them too much during the summer and end up in credit (which we found).
It's like the old quarterly billing method where you pay for what you've used, only monthly, simples 😆
Yep, we've got that, but last month they came round and changed the meters to 'smart' ones which send the readings off to BG each day! Also comes with a reader for indoors that shows exactly what your spending in near real time
Cool, sounds good. Guess we'll be living in perpetual cold darkness now 🙂

The worrying thing is that I've never seen mine drop below 8p an hour which works out at £700 a year. I really must get round to checking where all the current is going 😳
I'm on it, though they seem to have forgotted to remind me for a few months. Possibly because we've had 4 visits by a meter reader in 2 months!?
And one annoying thing is that all the tariffs are based on X for this much, then Y for this much, but the little meter doobry can only accept either flat rate or chronological tariff switching, meaning the £s are really only an average value that is inconsistent depending on changing use. The kwh readout is of course correct though, we average about 7-8 per day currently. Just wish gas was observable too.
BG are rolling out the new meters and both of ours were replaced and the talk to each other. The display jobbie for inside shows real time and real cost figures for leccy and gas. It's a really smart pice of kit!
