I'm trying to workout if I'll need a new consumer board.
We're about to change cookers from gas to dual fuel, which needs to be run from a 45A circuit rather than the 32A currently in there. I know I'll need a bigger 6mm cable but can I (well the electrician) just swap the 32A for a 45A or will I need a whole new board / how can I check?
Any advice welcome. Thanks
What type of unit is it? Re-wirable fuses/mcb?
What size cable is in there already?
Is bonding up to standard?
Is there a RCD?
Are spare mcb's readily available for your cu?
The list goes on, but usually no you can't just put a bigger fuse in.
There should be no reason to change the whole CU. Depending on the cable routing the cooker may need to go on an RCD. If your current unit isn't RCD protected you can run the cooker circuit through a separate RCD.
If you're still using an old style fuse wire CU then it's worth thinking about swapping it for a modern split load dual RCD one anyway.

There is an rcd, the existing cable looks like standard mains cable (not the beefy cooker/shower type cable)
No idea about the bonding and can't remember what type of unit it is, there are a couple of spare slots to the left of the RCD.
Looks like I'll have to get the elec in to give me an estimate.
