Has anyone claimed on their household insurance (M&S)?

Yep, and they were brilliant (also M&S).

They picked up the bust laptop the next day and phoned me the day after to offer me a new top of the range macbook pro and said that as it was my first ever claim it didn't effectr my premium....

So, £100 excess and five days after dropping my laptop, I had a shiney new macbook pro!!

Excellent service.

That's good to know, thanks Death.

I will try and find out how badly damaged it is today, and whether I need to claim or not.

The trouble is, is that it is about 6 years old and obviously not made any more, so not really sure what I would get as a replacement.

phone them, they'll offer you replacements to choose from (most likely well above the spec your 6yr old one was).
