My kids love watching these Russian car crashes and I was so intrigued about how some of them come about, as the driving defies any kind of logic, I asked a Russian client. His answer was everyone is off their head on vodka.

Having been there a few time , I can tell you that the driving standard is truly awful. Vodka is not the only issue - texting whilst drive, emailing whilst driving are also very common ... and just the standard is awful, and that old Muscovite arrogance

I'm in Moscow now and can confirm what is considered as a ***t on the road in the UK is normal here. A no lane discipline free for all.

Though I'm becoming more and more convinced that a dash-cam is turning into a good investment in the UK too!

The "cheap" one is called OSAGO (3rd party), it's obligatory and it will never ever compensate anything to you if you ARE at fault. It only compensates to those you caused damage to. So, if you want to get paid regardless of who is at fault, you get KASKO (fully comp), but it does have limits. Basically, the more expensive KASKO you buy, the more compensation you can possibly get.

So a similar system to everywhere, but the price difference between 3rd party and fully comp is about x10. As a result, everyone goes for the cheapest, uses dashcams, and prays.

That van driver really is in a hurry, to be in three (?) accidents in less than 30 seconds!

Did you see he then smashes his way out of the van and tries to hijack the 4x4 he's just rolled into before being accosted by some passers by?

Three worst places I've been driven around: Moscow, Bangalore and Sofia. Moscow was just too fast and mental, the Indians couldn't give a fig about traffic laws and the Bulgarians insist on using multiple phones simultaneously.

Driving in Russia is like watching the natural culling system at work.

I doubt you can really drive or speed in Jakarta like in Russia.
